What would that matter? They are in 'win-now' mode if you haven't noticed....

Seriously? It doesn't matter if your in win now mode. They have very few guys who are projected to be even average or slightly above average big league players. If you trade all of them then they are screwed even in "win now" mode.

I would assume the Dodgers aren't that stupid.

Win now mode doesn't mean empty your farm system of every average/above average prospect you have.

It doesn't?

I'd say David Price would help them win a World Series [now] a lot more so then any of their prospects in their farm system will in a handful of years.

Are you trying to argue that obtaining David Price doesn't help their team short term? Because they don't care what they do in 10 years, they want to win within the next few.

No teams look at it all the way on win now or win later. Its always somewhere in between and can move from side to side. I agree that the Dodgers are more in win now than in rebuild/prospect mode. I'm not saying that Price wouldn't help their team short term. I'm arguing that no team would sacrifice every prospect worth a damn in their organization for a chance to win now. Teams will keep at least a few solid prospects. If the Dodgers make that trade they'd lose Lee, Pederson and many more. (I'm not even sure if they have enough to pull off the trade without involving a third team).

If the Dodgers pull that trade then they are a lot dumber than I thought.

I'm guessing they prefer to go after tanaka, so the debate is probably a moot, at this point.

The Angels and Raul Ibanez have agreed on a one-year, $2.75 million deal, according to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.

The deal includes incentives that could make the contract worth up to $5 million. The 41-year-old will serve as the Angels' primary designated hitter with Mark Trumbo gone. The left-handed Ibanez experienced a career revival in 2013, hitting 29 home runs as a member of the Mariners.

I hope thats sarcasm.

How is a debate about Price and the Dodgers moot right now? A link was posted about Dodgers and Price. People discussed it. How is that a moot point?

God, bro, you like/have to debate everything.

I said, Im guessing it may be. because, it sounds like they are going after tanaka. If thats true, they wont be going after price.
Pretty easy to follow.
Im done. Enjoy your message board.

Oh, Maxy, you're apparently too young to remember the glory of the Steinbrenner Yankees.

Who turns down 7 years $140 million?! That's just insane.

I don't think it's too nuts. There might be a negotation on a deal worth more with another team, and _every_ team this year is flush with new national tv rights money so nothing seems to be out of play for any team who wants to go on a spending spree this year that they couldn't afford last year.

We know that the Dodgers aren't very smart because of the money they have spent on the many players over the past couple seasons. Smart teams would have never taken on Beckett/Crawford/Gonzalez contracts and give top prospects back in return. Does that trade help them in the future? No! But it sure as hell helps them win now. Let me put it this way, they don't want to be a very good team now that can't make it to the World Series, and they also don't want to be a decent team in the future that will barely make the playoffs. The tradoff to being the best team in baseball now is to hurt them in the future. And they are OK with that.

I would argue that they tried the homegrown talent route and it didn't win them any championships, so they know that they might have to make some trades and spend some money. They want to bring LA their first championship in 26 years, at all costs. Trading for David Price is only dumb for teams who are building for the future, but he is the best one to get to help a team short term.

I know, you are right. I'm just dealing with a few family health issues at the same time. Figured, I would put some time into the site to help it
and help me relax and keep my mind busy. Big appt for my daughter today and a surgery monday, so I come here to joke around, talk some baseball,
not be in debate mode 24/7. I can do that when my wife comes home. The guy adds as well, just needs to relax and realize the world, baseball, board talk,
doesnt revolve around the yanks and not everything said is meant as an attack. All teams have their strenghts and weaknesses, pointing them out isnt a
shot at the team or an individual fan, it's telling the truth, or at the very least, just one's opinion. Some may want to come here, take chit personal and
have at it, I just want to have fun and talk baseball. Something that is a game, a hobby, entertainment to me. With how hard life can be, why the hell do people
get worked up about baseball and a team, with players and owners, who don't give 2 chits about them/us. My best friend is a sports writer, here in socal, and he calls
me sometimes for an opinion. I grew up in sports, played at a high level in 3 sports, have close friends who played in the nfl, nba, and mlb. I think I can add a little here.
Just like to do it, and have some fun, without the stress.

That's crazy news. Now a few pitchers, wiht big ??????/, are going to get overpaid.

Possibly.

I've read from one site that he has only 1 year left on his NPB contract and another site says he has 2. After which, he will become a true FA.

I'd expect Garza to get paid regardless of Tanaka but this might be better news for Ubaldo and Ervin than anyone else.

Ah I guess I get what your saying. I just don't see the point in completely dumping every valuable prospect in the organization. But I agree with you that if the Dodgers do want to win now Price would help a lot more than Pederson etc.

I think we were both kinda saying the same thing "Dodgers would be stupid to do this, but it would help short term, but ruin the long term plans."

That rotation.... Kershaw, Price, Grienke, Ryu, Haren. WOWOWOWOWOW

I would assume the Cubs asking the Braves for Upton or Heyward in return for Samardzija is a sign that the Cubs don't really want to trade him unless of course a team is willing to overpay.
