Contraction > realignment. 2 teams should be eliminated not only for scheduling purposes but for talent purposes.

Expanded playoffs=FAIL

Agreed. They won't stop until there is a 16 team playoffs like the NBA and NHL. I quit watching those leagues because the regular season has next to no meaning when everyone gets in the playoffs.

So unless there's perpetual interleague player, both leagues will have teams with a day off every day. Will make for weird series (ie. off days won't be typical Mon and Thurs)

I would think this would be the case - they play them already, I don't see the harm in having one interleague matchup throughout the season.

Which leads to the next question, why bother with leagues anymore? If this is the result, then just change it to the conference format that the NFL, NBA and NHL have.
Which further screws things up. And something will definitely need to be done about either going all-DH or no-DH for everyone. And I think we all know what the union wants.
There's no way this goes smoothly.

What I would like:

Astros to AL West
Pirates to AL Central
Royals to NL Central

That would created an in-state rivalry between Cardinals and Royals, and the balance of power would hardly shift at all.
