Personally I'll do 1950-present since they I don't think the 1920's guys could hit a pitch today and benefited on tiny stadiums (Ruth). and nobody on here has seen any of them even play so how can you say they're that good based on stats.

1. Barry Bonds (steroids or not he was still a great hitter)
2. Willie Mays
3. Hank Aaron
4. Albert Pujols
5. Manny Ramirez

Probably forgot some guys though.
Yeah you are probably right Foxx, Dimaggio, Greenberg, etc. would probably have a .120 career BA with no homers if they played in this era!! (Where's the rolly eyes smiley when I need it?)

there is no way manny makes it in before arod...flat out impossible...and pujols is to young to put him in top five just yet, he will probably be there when its all said in done but not yet.

You serious?????

Manny has a higher BA, OBP, SLG%, OPS, OPS+, better BB/K ratio, ton more RBI, and is considered one of the best playoff hitters....

yes....im serious, if manny makes top five hitters than baseball is in a really sad state, but i dont argue with people who are fans of a player from their team because there hometown bias wont allow them to listen.. ::facepalm::

Are you calling me a Dodger fan?

And I was not saying he should/should not be on that list [IMO I don't see why he shouldn't be] but rather the fact that you think ARod is better than Manny. I just proved you wrong and all you can say to me is that I'm biased? Wow....yeah ummm, good try?

Like he said Manny has a higher Avg. OBP, SLG %, OPS, BB/K ratio, is one of the best playoff hitters EVER. And I'm in no way a Sox, Indians or Dodgers fan at all...

How is Joe DiMaggio not on anyone's list. He struck out only 360 times IN HIS CAREER. That came down to about 30-35 times A YEAR.

1. Ted Williams IMO Best ever no question
2. Ruth
3. DiMaggio
4. Cobb
5. There's at least 10 people who legitimately belong here.

For the after 1950 crowd. George Brett anyone?

Are you kidding me? Small stadiums:

Polo grounds:
Left Field – 279 ft (85 m)
Left-Center – 450 ft (137.1 m)
Center Field – 483 ft (147.2 m)
Right-Center – 449 ft (136.8 m)
Right Field – 258 ft (78.6 m)

Forbes Field:
Left Field—360 feet (110 m)
Deepest corner—462 feet (141 m)
Center Field—442 feet (135 m)
Right Field—376 feet (115 m)

Connie Mack Stadium (Phillies before Veterans)
Left Field - 360 ft (Opening day), 378 ft (Late 1909)
Center Field Corner - 515ft
Right Field - 340ft

Ebbets Field (Brooklyn Dodgers)

* Left field pole - 419 ft
* Center field deep - 477 ft
* Right field pole - 301 ft

I can go on but only Yankee Stadium and Fenway had "hitters" parks back then.

I did consider putting down Dimaggio, but I think that Gehrig was the better hitter.

Great list though, I am interested in seeing your #5. :)

It would have to be Mays. But there are so many more. In terms of pure hitting you have Yaz, Griffey, Gwynn, Wagner, Gherig. Let us also not forget Shoeless Joe. There's just so many.

Both Yankee Stadium and Polo Grounds were under 300ft down the line, I could hit 25 HR's a year there...

1. Ted Williams
2. Everyone else

IMO, no one comes close to Ted's skill with a bat. He hit .400, 'nuff said. Plus, his "compilation" numbers are handicapped by his service time.

It's really too simple.

I agree with you but a lot of players had their stats hindered by service. Mays would probably be the HR leader if not for serving our country.

Off topic but can you even imagine today's players going off to war? I think maybe 1% of the players would go if drafted.

mine is strictly my opinion.

1. ted williams
2. babe ruth
3. barry bonds
4. ty cobb
5. hank aaron

im sure if i spent a few minutes comparing every little stat i could argue for gehrig, mantle, ichiro, pujols, manny, or any other great player. these are mine and if you dont like them, then make your own list and ignore mine.
