I have always just used my naked eye, but the last submission I got killed on my corners.

Anyother tips?

If you grade a lot, a loupe is your best friend. I have done extremely well ever since I bought mine.

You can pick up a 10x loupe without LED light for less than $10 at a large bookstore like Books-A-Million or Barnes & Noble...or Hobby Lobby...or even Wal-Mart sometimes.

I recommend the 10x loupe with LED in the future, it's what I use and I love it...esp. for the price.

I bought a loupe and after going through about 75 cards for 1 submission it is a pain in the a** to use it on every card. I found that alot of light and holding the card at every possible angle works the best for me. To clean the surface use an oakley sunglass bag, it works great.

I agree, they are overrated. It obviously can't hurt to use them. All you need however is good lighting and good eyesight. If you look at the card from all angles, you should be able to see any defects, even surface scratches. If you wear glasses or don't trust your eyesight, a loupe may be best I guess. Or I guess if you want to be extra safe. To each his own I guess.
