Just trying to get some input on what others out there do with their personal collection that will never be sold.

I appreciate the comments!

Commons and less expensive cards go in penny sleeves and top loaders. Nicer cards in screwdowns and a bag.

My non-game used cards for my player collections are in binders. The game used and autos are stored in two-row, white pasteboard/cardboard boxes.

base cards in sleeve and top loader

inserts in snap tights

patches and auto's in one touches and then in graded bags

all in three row boxes by player/year/alphabetically

I am planning on buying a small safe to hold some of my better cards soon

I may have some OCD issues :geek:

I have some, too, but I have more prevalent lazy issues which keep me from being organized. My collections tend to be stacks of cards with the only thing in common being the fact that they are all cards of a sort.

In my mind, however, I am like the Library of Congress!

All base/inserts are in penny sleeves and top loaders. Higher end inserts, game used, and autos are in one touches and team bags. Then they are all sorted by year/alphabetically in 3 row boxes. I keep 3 row boxes for each different player.

Sets that I am working on get stored in binders.

sometimes I wish I was lazy when it came to organizing but I really think I do have OCD issues but I don't mind...my wife on the other hand is not a fan of my organizational issues.

Thanks for the input so far everybody.

I have organizational issues as well and change my mind frequently on what I'd like to do with my player collections. I've started submitting some of my cards to BGS for protection purposes. Now I think I'd like to store those cards in a nice case like the old M.J. Roop boxes. Of course I won't be encapsulating commons. I'm not that mad. Yet...

I've come across the same conundrum more than once. Keeping myself organized was pretty easy when I was only collecting Jack Wilson. Every card went into a penny sleeve and toploader, with base and any inserts numbered over 25 in order by year and then alphabetized by set.

As I my collection has continued to expand to include all Pirates, it has become really frustrating (not to mention taking up a lot of space) to keep putting all the autos and nicer cards in penny sleeves and toploaders. I recently did some rearranging, with my collection currently organized like this:

non-Pirate TTM autos in penny sleeves, then in 9 card pages - I have found that I spend far more time looking at my collection, and I enjoy the collection more than I did in the past. Most of the time cards would go straight from the mail box into a toploader and never be looked at again. Now I get to check out my entire collection every time I flip through the album to add a new card.

Jack Wilson commons in 9 card pages, inserts in toploaders in year/set order, and all rarer inserts, autos, and gu in a fireproof box. Like the TTM autos, I find myself looking through the commons more often now that they are in the pages.

Pirate autos are all in pennysleeves and toploaders, though these already take up 2 monster boxes, so some lesser players may be moved to 9 card pages soon.

In my mind no one has to explain protecting the beauty that is the 1978 Topps set.

I have to agree with you there! I store my cards in my closet as well so there isn't a ton of exposure to sunlight. It makes me cringe when I see cards displayed in the open. Although it's a person's individual preference and that's ok by me.

In regards to your cards, did you happen to receive something from me? I just want to make sure it got there safe and sound.

Thank you!

Easily my favorite set of all time, not only for sentimental reasons, but just 'cause the design is so nifty. :)

I keep some of my favorite cards out and on my desk, but my desk is in a windowless room.

 Well, I used to have the OCD issues with my collection, but I've been cured. Now it's all a great big mess. :?

I keep my collection in these custom made "5000 ct" boxes. I had them made because I like to keep my cards in the proper order, even if they are graded....

I have 6 boxes and 2 lids, so they make 2 nice little stacks of 3 boxes. They weigh about 1,000 pounds when loaded with cards. ::facepalm::

JackLondon,

I'm partial to the '78 set because it was my birth year. I remember chasing down even commons when I was a kid because 1978 seemed so long ago. Haha!

Maybe I'll start that set sometime...
