How fakes will effect the hobby...

Some good ideas in here. I think something like better labeling of what kind of swatch it is would help. Some companies do, but maybe a little more detailed than 'Prime'.

Description right under the window:
One Color Swatch
Two Color swatch
Four Color team Logo
Two Color Nameplate
Reebok Logo

...and so on. Bottom line is, it's going to cost money to stop the ******** and that's why I don't see anything drastic happening. But even if companies came up with a full proof way to stop fakes, there is still what, 14+ years of jersey cards that would be fair game for fakers.

You would have to put every ITG card in a team bag to prevent the toploader from getting all scratched up. I have one ITG card and I took it out of the sealed toploader because I'll never sell it.

I put ALL my cards in team bags already (if its in a top loader/one touch its in a team bag), so it wouldn't bother me personally and besides if the item is a PC item you could take it out and put it into any holder you want. Its just a nice "safety shield" to have when you are buying and its better than nothing, what the other company's are doing.

Card makers need to do what was done with last year's Cup hockey - individually photograph every card before they are packed out - then maintain a database of said cards. This is the only way to ensure the integrity of the cards for future generations. Disk space, digital photography, etc. all being what they are today - there's NO excuse for this not happening across the board.

Otherwise, unless its a single color patch - people will continue to be skeptical.

Not a hockey person, butr that would work...do you have a link...I would like to see this.

This is never going to happen. It's too costly to take a photo of every single jersey card.

Its actually already happened Tim. A collector from Calgary that i know publicly "called out" UD that he would pay for his own air fare and accomodations, he would supply his own camera and do all the work if they let him attend The Cups pack out last spring. UD took him up on his offer and the rest is history. The only thing is, is that the data base is not public.

Yes and the collector was going to make the database public, but was advised by almost everyone not to do this because of the $$$ it cost him to take on this project. But with him taking the time off work, airfare, hotel, transportation etc. it cost him well over $5K (i dont know the exact amount). So what he has been doing at the Toronto Expos (Canadian version of the National) is setting up a booth where he will authenticate your Cup patch for a fee.

Holy cow - are you serious? I didn't know the part about him setting up & authenticating. If he can make a buck, I can't blame him. Although, UD should provide this service to their customers for free already.
