A comment in another thread got me thinking, just how good will Derrick Rose be in the long haul?

KandKCards said:I'm not sure if we can anoint him top 50 of all time just yet, but he will be a stud his whole career. Not only can he do everything on the court, he can also do everything VERY well. To top it off, his size makes it very difficult for a PG to guard while his quickness makes it very difficult for an SG to guard him. I can't really think of anyone to compare him to. If he can reach his ceiling, I think he will be fantastic.
Scary, he's almost exactly my age. He was born 10/4/88, I was 10/17/88.

This is all about potential, so that's why Top 50 is on there.
Of the recent point guards to enter the league, two studs come to mind, Deron Williams and Chris Paul. They both have great passing ability.
Rose may have the passing ability of both, the strength of Williams, the quickness of Paul and better athelticism than either. However, both Chris and Deron are probably better outside shooters than Derrick.
Exactly. Rose is the best of both worlds. While he isn't the All-Universe passer that CP3 is, a lot of his other tools are superior. And although his outside J isn't as good, he can still shoot the rock.masonphillip said:KandKCards said:I'm not sure if we can anoint him top 50 of all time just yet, but he will be a stud his whole career. Huff- I agree. I had high hopes for Livingston. He was a victim of being able to enter the draft right out of HS. He came out with all the talent in the world but incredibly raw. Just one year playing against top NCAA competition would have done wonders for him. He would've learned how to play with other premiere players, which I think he never really got used to in the NBA. Sad what happened with his injury, because he's as talented a prospect as I've seen.
Yep, it's sad. I heard a lot of stories like that. And just think...a guy can throw down like that while running the point. Unreal.masonphillip said:KandKCards said:Exactly. I totally agree, Shaun needed a year to develop strength above all things which I believe played into the injury bug he's fallen prey to. He was a wonderful passer, fantastic athlete and probably a better shooter than Derrick, quickness might be a wash between the two.
I actually went to Shaun's recruiting visit when he came to the University of Illinois (my alma mater), his skills were unbelievable, I was far more impressed with him than I was with Charlie Villanueva's recruiting visit and Charlie is a freak too. At one point in time Shaun drove the baseline and threw down a two handed dunk in Roger Powell's face, which wasn't particularly easy to do. He would have benefited so much from going through a college strength and conditioning program though.
