I met Don Mattingly in Feruary 2003, right before he headed down to Florida as the Yanks ST hitting coach.

I asked him what he thought of Hideki Matsui (remember, this was before Matsui saw one MLB pitch and was coming off a 50 HR year in Japan).

Don said he is going to be a star with 25-30 HR potential. Bingo, right on target.

I asked him about Drew Henson who was still a Yank prospect but hadnt totally put it together. He replied "Im going to have to work with him". I guess he couldnt come out and say "Yeah, he sucks".

It was awsome. I was a fan since i was first able to comprehend the game. I was a fan of his from the beginning. I did not jump on his bandwagon when he rose to national fame in 97 & 98. It was a thrill at age 7 and through the years i was able to get things signed by him when he came to the east coast to play the yankees, mets, phills etc. He remembered me in 2004 when i was 21 when i went to the Steiner Meet and Greet. I actually had a beer with him and talked to him for about 5 minutes. To come full circle was awsome. But being a longtime fan in 1998, when your favorite player since you were a little kid was captivating the world was just awsome.

down the road id like to meet Jay Bruce, maybe in 15 years. Not now though, as i am technically
old enough to be his father, that would be a bit weird lol

I met Brett Butler earlier this summer after a Reno Aces-Fresno Grizzlies game. As it was only a 20-second handshake/please sign this jsersey for me meeting, it wasn't all that spectacular but still pretty cool. I'd love to sit down & have a nice chat with him, as Brad did with Mark Grace. Both of us being Christian and family men, I think we'd have more common ground than just baseball stuff.
