In the background of my collecting I am collecting every single Topps phillies card ever made. Well.... That would be impossible so I am doing 1970 (year I was born) to now. And when I say all I mean all the basic ones. Event he ones with double players on them and all stars and even the traded sets. so far I have 1974 to now done. 1970 I need 3 1971 I need a lot. 1972 I need 10 and 1973 18. I am close. I have been picking at this for many years. A lot of people don't consider the dual player or all star and so forth cards but I count them too.
Has anyone ever done this for there fave team?

Back in 1993, I had every Topps, Fleer, and Donruss Mets Team set made including traded sets. Made a small fortune off the Nolan Ryans since back then they were worth a mint!

Sold them all off in late 1993 though...

I thought about fleer and donruss but That would be too many. And topps being the leader in sports cards for this long id stick with them.

At one time I had the run of Brewers sets plus traded and a good start on Donruss and Fleer but gave up that ghost awhile ago. The Topps binder was enormous

Great Thread. i have been working on the same thing on and off for the last ten years. every pack issued (and traded set) Topps Card featuring a member of the Mets.

i have every Topps Mets card from 1962 to 2010. i need a few from the last couple of years, just lazy on it.

like you, i started with my birth year (1971), but then went back to 1962 since that was their first year in the league.

i think you can go back to '52. it will be costly, but in time i think you can tackle it

Thats the problem of being a fan of a team that is over 100 years old. LOL. But once i hit 1970 to now i will work backwards...69.68.67

I too was born in 1970. And, I too have tried to do this. The Red Sox are my addiction. I am not sure if you are in good company or bad company, but you have company. I actually did penny sleeves and top loaders until I ran out of space.

I just got into this hobby a couple years ago when my kids got me hooked. I like being a player collector but have been trying to think of a way to do more Dodgers. I really like this idea starting w/ my birth year (1976 btw). If I could ask a couple novice questions... 1) Do you guys do only Topps base set (ser. 1, 2, & ud) or all Topps sets (Heritage, Chrome, etc.) 2) Is there a good source/site that breaksdown checklists by team?? Thanks in advance for any help. Adam

First off welcome to the wonderful world of collecting. For me it is only topps basic sets series 1 2 and the update/traded sets. beyond that (chrome and all) will be way too much.
There was a guy on Topps (when they had a site) that was called teamsetcollector or something like that. But his sets didn't have the all star or dual cards. Though they basically are not considered a part of the team set but to me if the have a Phillies uni I want it. I have this strange HUGE book on all topps cards ever made. I think it only went up to 1992 or around there. They had a pic of every card so I went page to page to page looking at all the pics for Phillies cards. Also I went through e-bay too. but on e-bay if someone is selling a set of a team like I said they don't like the odd ball ones in the set.

Thanks for the welcome... after I posted I immediately tabbed over and began doing "Dodgers Topps Team Set" searches on Ebay!! I have found a couple that include the all-star and leaders cards. (I also found a someone who just listed about 50 Kershaw cards... 20+ of which I need!!) I will have to give this a try as I need a new thing. Thanks for the idea.

I've thought about it but I'm more into collecting base topps sets and update sets as a whole. I've got them or am working on them going back to 1968. Earliest complete set I have is 1981 but I'm missing like 8 cards(cheapies too) from 1979 and like 40 or so from 1978(also cheapies). In fact, for all of those sets I have the most expensive rookies so mostly it's just commons I'm missing. I'm just lazy and really picky about condition. I've built everything prior to 1985 by digging through millions of cards in monster boxes from a dealer I know. He's pretty cool so I can just take about 5 or so of them home and dig through at my leisure. I then bring him back what I don't need, and show him what I pulled and we just come up with a price or trade. He usually has the star cards but I'm always missing the key rookies so I just went ahead and started buying them up as I went along. I didn't want those to be the last cards I needed.

So no...I haven't really tried to go after just one team. I like them all too much.

Yeah well... if I was in this for the value I wouldn't collect a lot of what I do. That's what's cool...there are cheap ways to enjoy this hobby. Besides, if you do team sets you're still collecting a lot of five cent cards no?

of course.

I love my binders because the once or twice every so years I look through all the years I find players and teamates I forgot about and always end up reading the backs of that entire team

love team set collecting, it's great

I collect Braves cards but not just Topps, I collect all Braves cards (Boston, Milwaukee & Atlanta) from any year/set...The oldest team set I'm working on right now is 1954 Bowman Milwaukee Braves, I only need 5 or 6 more cards to complete it...

This is the best site that I've found for checklists by team: The Trading Card Database...
