I'm really thinking of subscribing to BA; can you guys give me some information on the $130+ commitment I'd be signing up for? The user-only content, the magazine itself...is it in-depth enough so that I don't have to go buy John Sickel's prospect book?

Thanks as always!

I think there is a small handful here that do. I do not, though.

I did, but I ended up letting it expire. As time has gone by, almost ALL of their contect is subscription only.

I subscribe only to the site. For magazine info not found there, I go to my local Barnes and Noble every so often.

To be honest, you probably should never close yourself to just the opinion's of 1 site in the area of prospect's (it's best to gather more opinion's & insight than just BA's). After all, BA doesn't have a crystal ball that the other publication's & site's do not... as JP said, if you have a Barnes & Nobles near, that is a fantastic source for material (& if you're on a budget you can read it while you browse :P )!

I try not to; I read Sickel's minorleagueball religiously now; take in opinions from this site, and read what I can from BA--I'm really just getting into prospecting, and I'm really enjoying it. I just wanted to know if this was a worthwhile source; content-wise :)

I do not as most of the information that I want provided by BA is located elsewhere on the web. Plus, there are a couple tricks using search engines to bits and pieces of "user-only" content. That is if you want to sit around building a puzzle all day. I will admit I do pick up a magazine every now and then when I'm in the local bookstore.

It drives me nuts how I don't have access to prospectsplus

It's sorta the only reason that I ended up buying a subscription.. I kept ending up there, and it said I had to subscribe. Now I'm left with a website that I almost never read.. Well, I do read it, but I never woulda purchased the subscription if I knew I had to shell over an extra 120!! for access to prospectsplus.baseballamerica.com

I get it all, but you can probably do without the print edition if necessary as there is typically only a fraction of content there that does not show up on the site. BA will send you a free print copy first to give you an idea of what you will be getting. I'd say the Prospect Handbook and the web content are great investments - you'll blow more money busting wax indiscriminately.

I looked up the price of the online subscription, which is $66 per year, but if I sign up for 2 years of the print magazine+online edition, it's $137.90; $68.95/year. I think I might just have to sign up for the print magazine as well, haha.

That's what i did, i only want the website, but it ends up being almost free to get the print edition if you do it for 2 years. Every 2 years i ask for it for christmas.

I find it required reading for a prospector, and the print editions are just nice coffee table reading.

I have both print and online, I love both because I am not online that often and if the kids are watching Spongebob, or Rescue Heroes, I have the magazine right next to me.

Print/web subscriber for almost 5 years now.
Regarding the magazine, I enjoy reading the team-by-team blurbs. They put each player in bold-type so I can scan each teams blurb rather quickly to see what my guys are up to. I usually find some good nuggets in there in each issue.
Regarding the web subscription, I find myself needing to browse the Draft Database quite often. And as a subscriber, I can search the d-base by name.
For me, both subscriptions really complement each other and I find both useful. But as was stated before, you have to browse multiple sources to conduct the best research. Here's a few of the other sites I use:
maxpreps.com
perfectgame.org
pgcrosschecker.com
topprospectalert.com
usabaseball.com
milb.com
mlb.com
