The fact is, as fans we tend to look past players flaws and seemingly idolize them.

In the process we forget that they are just like us. Not heroes. Not idols. Nowhere near perfect. It takes events like this to remind us that most athletes are, in fact, spoiled and coddled cry babies who only care about themselves.

I'm not surprised. This Red Sox team is a far cry from the 2003/2004 teams especially. Teams in which it seemed the players had an actual connection to the fans, team, organization, and the city. What we've got now is a bunch of underachieving selfish pricks. I think the only important thing to each one (with a few exceptions) is themselves. Thankfully I live about 15 minutes from the Nationals park and it's getting pretty exciting around here. It's a TEAM here, not a bunch of selfish individuals.

I could see if they didn't attend the funeral of Yaz or other living former Red Sox. But, it's Johnny Pesky. Screw them.

I hate the Red Sox with a passion.....BUT you saying the Nationals is a "TEAM"..and "NOT SELFISH"...LOL....Harper is a crybaby, Werth is as selfish as they come, and Strasburg is too much of a "Sissy Mary" and is sitting down when the team is ready for the playoffs....and that's three off the top of my head...come on man.

Are you confusing the top of your head with the crack of your ass?

Harper is a crybaby? Based on what?

Werth selfish? Why? Because he signed a large contract? Nevermind that Harper credited him the most for taking him under his wing and showing him the ropes when called up. Sounds more like a "team" guy to me.

Are you even paying attention or is your head rammed that far up your 5th point of contact when you mentioned Strasburg? You make it sound like he's willingly taking himself out. Unbelievable. Yet you say you state "facts". Man, get a grip. You apparently don't even know what the hell a "fact" is.

I'm a fanatic sox fan.. And I can't stand most of the team. I enjoy Papi, Pedroia, and Lester.. I literally cannot watch these guys.

Bobby V is horrid but the big time talent is lacking. It's like they went back to the late 80s going from power to powder by signing low level talent to mid level pay.

Carl Crawford should be ashamed of herself.

Yup, for me it's Papi and Pedroia. Maybe Adrian. And Middlebrooks, though he's out now. The rest of the team is a nightmare.

Always hate this reasoning. The funeral is not about you and how you deal with it. Very selfish. The funeral is about the person who passed and showing respect for the family and the life. It means a lot to the family to see people show up and pay respect. No one likes going to them, but shows a lot of character of the guys who did show up.

I disagree. I always attended funerals of family, friends, and officers killed in the line of duty (or died while active). After 9-11 and the years since I have become numb from attending so many. I cant walk through the door without crying. Now I cant go... I told my wife the next funeral you get me to, will be my own.
With that said I can see 1 or 2 with a problem, not the whole team.
