Been playing Road to the Show on MLB 08 for PS3. Took me 2 months to finish my first full season.

For those of you that don't know Road to the Show allows you to create a player - most people create themselves - and take control of every action of your player; and only your player within each game. It takes about 5-10 minutes to play a game so I can bust out anywhere from 5-20 games in each sitting.

Also, you can't raise your power, contact, plate disc., speed, etc. max to make yourself god-like. In fact, they don't allow you much points at all to start and you basically start by being an AA bench player. You get points by completing goals, performing well, and doing what the coach asks you to do.

Anyway, I made myself an 18-year-old 3B for the Rangers in hopes of dethroning Blalock in 2 years. I got to play in every game b/c 3rd game into the season, the Rangers called up Travis Metcalf to AAA and I was the only remaining 3B.

Well when the season finished, the Rangers decided to reward me with a 2-year 700k contract BUT AA starter again. I'm trying to break some MLB records so I can't afford to start in AA again. So I took my chances and tried out for the Twins in Spring Training and made the club and became their AAA starter. (I'm about even in overall rating with their 2009 3B starter: Brian Buscher). ETA in MLB: July 2009.

Here were my final stats for the entire year of 2008 with the RoughRiders:

AVG: .356
AB: 621
R: 93
H: 222
2B: 40
3B: 1
HR: 33
RBI: 153
SB: 46 (i'm not a fast runner at all but its so easy to steal on AA pitchers/catchers and a SB gets you 10 points per game)
BB: 30
SO: 121 (AA is where I get the most strikeouts b/c about 1 in 3 pitchers can throw 92 or higher and has a 65 knuckleball, it's so lame)

So my question is: How much would you spend on my 2009 Bowman Chrome rookie auto

If you're smart you'll take Razor to the bank and sign an exclusive deal.

:x :(

Seriously though has anyone attempted a career on this game and stuck with it? With the 07 version, I played four straight years and was in my third year in the MLB with the Reds before 08 came out.

This time I'm not going to stop when 09 comes out (I'll still get 09, but will only do a franchise on 09).

Well,

Considering youre a powerhitting third basemen who with Hanley speed and are playing in AA

I'd say you'd be closer to 75-80 range

lol, your welcome! 8-)

EDIT: I just saw previews for the Show 09, and I must say I'm stoked. The game already had great graphics and good gameplay.

This year they added the WORKS: Rule 5 Draft, 40 man rosters in Sept., free agent compensation draft picks, arbitration hearings, draft is in the middle of season and not at the end, etc.

It's going to be grand...

Ever think of bumping up the game play level? That sounds boring.

Wow that sounds aweomse, will definately be getting that.

About the question about finishing the season or career, I have. I must admit that I kinda cheated, I like to develop my player and simulate the seasons. So technically I have finished a few careers but have not played in every single game. A tip for the people who think it is tough to get higher and stay there is, to add attribute points to every single available attribute before they start decreasing (after I believe 4 weeks).

yah but the only problem is you don't get nearly as many points as you could if you actually played the game. i mean you can get 25 points a couple times just for driving in a run at a vital point late in the game.

i've gotten 150 points in one game whereas if i simulated it, i calculated that i would've only gotten 40.

Im confused on the attribute points. How in the heck do they work. Whats the deal with the little blue line? Sometimes when i try to increase my attributes the blue line will go up all the way and other times it goes all the way down.

Well if you dont' understand how you obtain the points I can explain that, but I assume you know that already.

You then use the points to increase your skills. The blue line is basically an indicator on where you are at before your yellow thick bar goes higher or lower. If the blue line is red, that means taht you have not put any points towards that skill in a while and it is decreasing and your yellow bar will go down. They usually start to go down about after of month of ignorance.

Two things I like they did in 08 version different from 07 version: 1. They pretty much make you focus on all areas of your game instead of just throwing every point you get into say contact or power. In your "Advancement Goals" they make you improve in areas such as fielding, plate discipline, vision, arm, accuracy, etc.

You can choose to ignore these but you could find yourself not getting called up or worse, sitting the bench.

Hope that helps. I'm eager to see what improvements there are for the 09 version, b/c there are still some areas to be touched up.

I just hope they get rid of the defense in Road to the Show - nothing stupider than waiting through loading screens to field fly balls. Also baserunning needs to be fixed. So dumb to have to watch other players entire at bats.
