How often do you get a Second Chance Offer?

I just got one this evening on a 1997 Fleer Ultra Platinum Edition Gary Gaetti that went waaay more than I thought I would have to pay for. Could the seller really have another, or is it more likely that the deal fell through with the original winner? When you get a Second Chance, is it for the amount that the item went for to the highest bidder, or the highest amount that you had previously bid? I'd like the card, but I still don't want to pay $15.00 for it!

Im pretty sure he had 2 or somebody flaked out on a bunch of his auctions because I received a 2nd chance offer on the Todd Jones in the set. He had it up as a BIN for 9.99 which is still more than I want to pay.

I haven't had a 2nd chance offer in ages. Unless I really wanted the card, I normally declined. If I were to receive a 2nd chance offer today, I would be requesting that the offer be for my bid minus any bids the high bidder made. If the seller declined, I would just move on. Too many people shilling accounts today to trust a 2nd chance offer.

Not that often - rare. My last one was for a Superfractor of Chad Lundahl from his '09 BC. I rejected it (at a fantastic price), because I was going for that one or another. I won the other and therefore, was not in the market for that 2nd CO.

Not exactly, just don't buy much at all.

Same! I have received a few but after looking at the bid history it was always a 0-5 feedback person who beat me by 50 cents after bidding $1 increments 15-20 times. I usually decline the 2nd chance offer since it still jacks the price up on you.

I'm a pretty big ebay purchaser and I don't get them very often because 99% of the time it is a shill bid type situation and I ignore them but yesterday I actually accepted one.

It was for a Mickey Mantle 1997 topps comm. set 20-36. Its kind of a hard set to come across and even though I knew it was a shill I took it anyways instead of waiting a few weeks or possibly longer for the set to come around again

I bid on a Babe Ruth BGS 9.5 card for 6.95 which ended at like 7.25, literally within 5 minutes of the auction ending, got a second chance offer.

Thanks for the responses, guys. This is the first time I've seen this particuar card available before, so I'm anxious to get it, but for that price--it might as well be Burbank selling it. Think I'll wait.
