After the main event tonight, and Rousimar Palhares' accusations that Nate Marquardt's legs were greased, how prevalent do you guys think greasing is in MMA?

I don't think it is... I think a lot of people think the Greg Jackson camp does it. Palhares had it in his mind that Nate might grease as Palhares is a BJJ specialist. But he was checked by three people immediately and on the replay, Nate spun out before Palhares actually hooked it in. He is famous for popping knees and not letting go of the heel hook so i am sure Marquardt practiced the escape hundreds of times. Sour grapes if you ask me... If i can't heel hook him, he must be greasing... Jackson isn't stupid, so he knows to have his fighters sweaty against a BJJ fighter... I guarantee Nate had shaved his leg hairs and probably used lotions for a few days beforehand to make himself more slippery, but was devoid of grease.

Just my opinion...

It does happen. There are so many little tricks guys use that I have seen or heard of.

Grow just enough stubble on the beard to annoy you opponent by grinding your chin into his neck during the clinch or on the ground.

Another one is right before the fight to slightly trim the tips of your hair in hopes that one gets in your opponents eye during the fight on the ground.

One of my teammates on a card I fought on didnt shower for 6 days leading up to his fight so that he stank something fierce for his guy!

And then you have grease. It happens.
IIRC it was Huerta and Melvin Guillard that was declared a NC because Melvin greased.
And Akiyama used lotion on his skin prior to his fight vs Sakuraba

I agree it does happen, i just don't think it is prevalent.

I know football players wear extra small jerseys so they are tight and they are often sprayed with Pam to make them slippery.

I have heard someone say once "if your not trying to cheat to win, you shouldn't be playing"
