HOW POINTS ARE EARNED
We will never disclose all the variables for earning points on this site. It's a system that users could crack and take advantage of if too much information was out there. We will however highlight a few things that will help your experience and get you on the fast track to earning FCB Reward Bucks.

#1 Starting new and relevant topics. This is the absolute most important thing that you as a user can do here. Topics that generate several pages of discussion are vital to the success of the site and they are heavily weighted in the program. I should note that uninteresting topics that do not generate conversation are almost completely ignored by the system.

#2 Transactions. Use this site to buy/sell/trade and you will accumulate points. The system combs the feedback system to look for people who are successfully trading.

#3 Use Social Media. Tweets that point to threads using the @fcbsportscards mention are tracked and given rewards. Make sure your twitter handle is in your profile here so we know who to award the points to. The same thing applies to facebook.

#4 Do something useful. There is also a manual component to the site where we can manually award points to users. Actions within the community that add to the culture here are appreciated and rewarded.

#5 eBay links. It's no secret that this site is funded by those links. Post them in threads where relevant and the system will reward you.

This point. i get the impression that some users are simply trying too hard to start threads for the sake of earning points. Are those users somehow throttled in the points rewarding system by the computer?

if the topic does not generate conversations it gets them nothing.

Seems reasonable, however it still seems worth mentioning that all of this is for not unless those who are 'suggested' get final approval from you, right? I mean regardless of what the system pushes out, it all comes down to who you approve, no? Not implying anything, just want to be clear.

Yes. It all requires human verification

Is original content weighted differently than someone who contributes but pulls content from other sites or social media? I would hope so but didn't see it discussed anywhere.

not necessarily

any content that promotes discussion (and not mindless bickering) is good for the site. Obviously if someone is posting threads that are more like blog posts we will manually weigh them higher. I would absolutely welcome someone treating these forums like their own personal blog. I would also reward that highly.

While I 100% agree with your point, it seems like this is something that might be too hard for the computer to pick up and would take too many human hours to determine. There are specific posters that tend to only reiterate what ESPN/Twitter/MLBN is spewing out and add no personal touch to the quotes they post, but it is what it is.

The human side of the verification looks at the threads submitted for reward and weighs them. if all the rewards are for junk, they just get deleted. It's really quite the simple process.

So good threads not "I got a case of topps chrome missing hits"threads that lead to twenty pages of nothing?
