How should the All-star vote be done?

I think the fans should still vote, just have their vote weighted less so that Derek Jeter, who has declined skills, isn't sent as the AL SS starter due to the New York ballot stuffing.

The voting of players and managers should be weighted more than that of the fan.

And keep the "at least one representative" per team because every team deserved at least one player in the game.

Hate to break it to you but if your so called ballot stuffing theory was going on the entire team would be Yankees. But I understand its hard to admit that other teams fans voted for him.

I don't think so many people would care if it didn't mean anything like it used to. I realize that it's not exactly fair since teams don't play the same schedules, but why can't it just be home field goes to the team who has the best record? That's the most simple way.

I think its a bit ridiculous that the manager gets to choose the pitching staff. This year Bochy stacked it with Giants snubbing a few other worthy recipients.

I would implement a system where players at all positions are ranked by an MLB and MLBPA approved stats service (using most likely a WAR like stat) and the fans could only vote on the top 5 players at their positions (top 15 for outfielders).

This would allow fans to vote for their players IF they were able to be ranked in the top 5 at their position.

Final spots could be the same popularity contest they are right now and the Manager fills in the rest.

He was a household name that non baseball fans knew. That's wearing off now. When I ask my mom who Derek Jeter is, she has to think about it, and make a guess...


Sadly, it might be because he isn't involved in enough drama. If you ask my mom who some famous baseball players are, she'll tell you Barry Bonds, Jose Canseco, and that new white guy... Roger Clemonds or somebody.

in all honesty I think the players and coaches should do the voting for phase 1. which would select a set number of players per position. then phase 2 let the fans vote on those selected players to see who becomes your starters and the rest of the team.

The main gripe from most people are the few (fan induced) snubs that inevitably happen every year. In my opinion, it is the responsibility of the manager to correct this and this year there was an atrocious oversight. Andrew McCutchen should be in the All Star game. Period. Bochy dropped the ball on this one.

Especially when he picked Carlos Beltran (WTF Bochy!?) and the Mets already had a rep (Jose Reyes). I just don't get it. ::facepalm::
