Funny, I think this entire thread could read the same (other than some of the comps) replacing Gordon for Delmon (who incidentally was my biggest prospecting mistake ever as I totally got swept up in the hype.)

At least Gordon, from what I can tell, has a DECENT head on his shoulders. Anyone who watched Delmon throw the bat at the umpire and still bought his cards after that was incredibly foolish.

I know most people bought prior to his incident but many saw that as a time to load up when prices hit "rock bottom".
Delmon has done nothing since (that I have heard) to give reason to believe that he has not growth up and matured since that incident.

Most of what I have read says he is not a projected starter.

Then most of what you are reading is wrong.

Gordon is projected to start and Fields will be the backup unless Gordon flops/gets hurt in ST and Fields does exceptionally well.

From Yahoo....

Josh Fields(notes) could wrestle the starting third base job away from Alex Gordon(notes) during spring training.

While it is Gordon’s job to lose, Fields could become the starter with a great spring training and if Gordon falters. Gordon had hip surgery last year and hit .232 in 49 games.

Fields, a former Oklahoma State quarterback, is a right-handed power hitter who hit 23 home runs in 2007 as a rookie with the White Sox and was obtained in a November trade for Mark Teahen(notes). Fields also can play the outfield and first base.

Gordon will never reach his hype pricing again, that was just ridiculous. I think he can still turn into a decent player, but I would love to see Fields get the job :D

One of my favorite looking cards (these were /16):

i will lay 100.00 that gordon is the starter barring an injury to either player by opening day.

just because you read there is competition, doesn't mean it's anything more than coach speak.

YOU KNOW
if you think about it this shows that call ups are the best time to sell due to hype even if they become like ryan howard or good they wil not be what they were priced at at hype time and f=if they are bad you will fall dramatically and lose some major coin so this shows that you should avoid too hyped prospects and sell at call up time on good prospects to make the most coin then maybe buy in the middle of career and sell at HOF inductions to see some spikes in prices
