How to get people to sell you their cards...

I have a magnetic sign on my car that says "I want to buy your baseball cards" and my phone # and email address. I get old people all the time and call me to sell their cards. I have been doing this for twenty years. I have made thousands... OK, ten of thousands. The other side is that I tell these people the true value and give them options, I will buy them outright or sell them on the bay at a 20% commission after fees. I do it the right way and let them come to me. I can sleep at night this way...

So let me get this straight you sit down with these people and tell them the fair market valur their cards and pay then buy them? So your forcing yourself to pay a much higher price. No way you make 10s of thousands of dollars doing that. I've been buying private collections for 18 years and there's no way that you make that kind of money doing it that way. Glad you sleep ok though

It depends on what you come across. I have made over $10,000 profit buying and selling in the past 10 years, and i am sure owning a couple of gas stations that hes able to buy much more than me. I am not sure about the point of the op's post but i don't doubt what he says.

How do you expect people to act when someone is bragging on the thousands oh wait... Tens of Thousands they made off of selling cards. If the OP would have written his topic differently he would get better responses.

Thats how i felt about the worlds greatest collection hands down thread. I disagreed about the title and even though i complimented his collection i was called a hater.

gogosox, you are a clown. I have been in the business longer than you have been breathing air. If you divide the $25000 or so that I have made doing this for 20 or so years it adds up to be around $120 per year.
