Hello, I'm looking for some help on how to make custom cards.

For those of you who make them, maybe you could help me answer a few questions:

a) Is there already a guide posted somewhere on how to make them? (I've searched the forum & google but have not found a good one) If so, please link me.

b) What program do you use to make them? Photoshop?

c) How do you print them?

Thanks in advance for your help, specifically JBel if you could let me know how you make those awesome Ginters I would really appreciate it.

He is not going to tell you. I asked what filter he uses and didn't even get a response.

As someone who has created custom cards (cuts, game-used, etc.) for years, my advice would be to spend some time actually deconstructing cards and figuring out exactly what's involved and how you would do it. Deconstruct the actual cards, and then try to accurately replicate a design that you like. Completely replicate it so that you can learn some hooks.

The way I build my customs, isn't the same way everyone else does...some better methods and some worse, but I use what works for me.

I use Photoshop exclusively for the designs, why? Because I own it. It's pricey, and a big jump financially so something like Gimp (opensource and free) will work great.

I have no idea your current skill set so more specific advice can follow.

IE: Are you crafty? Creative? Patient? Slave to the details?

Nathan,

Welcome to the custom card creators' guild.

I've always used Photoshop Elements; Version 2.0 IIRC. I bought Version 8.0, but don't like it (actually I'm too lazy to learn all the new bells and whistles.)

I print my fronts and back separately on 8.5x11" label paper, and sandwich cardboard of a thickness appropriate to the "feel" I'm going for.

Many of my customs are viewable by clicking on the link below.

Good luck, you'll love the challenge!

I'm patient and a slave to details, but not particularly crafty or creative. I am certainly willing to put in the time to learn how to get it right, though.

Love the Bob Lemke blog, I have been a reader for a while, thanks for the examples.

I'm gonna give it a shot, I'll post up my progress as I go.

He has made a ton of custom Ginters including me and i don't blame him for putting "Also, please don't pm me asking for templates, because they will be ignored" so there should be no suprise in the lack of response. ;)

But maybe if he gave what template he used we would be able to take the amount of requests to him down and he would not have as many to do.

But thats not what he wants and we should respect that.

All the card templates that I have I have made from scratch. I didn't get them from other people. They all came from me MAKING them and my hard work figuring out what works and looks best. Maybe you should apply yourself and try making something on your own instead of relying on other people to give you hand outs.

I was not asking for a handout, all I was asking was if it was a template which one was it. I was wondering its awesome that you made the template the sigs you make are awesome. I was wondering becuase I would love to make those cards like that and print them for autographs. I can probably "apply" myself and make one but I don't know if I care that much to build one in Gimp.

I use Paint Shop Pro for the most part, but I will occasionally use Photoshop to do some effects and editing.

You always want to have the actual image to be 200% of the print size. So if you're doing a trading card that is 2.5x3.5" (250 pixels by 350 pixels), you want the working image on the computer to be 5x7 (500 pixels by 700 pixels).

So on the screen, your card should be as big as this :

But would print out this size :

Hankerson,%20Leonard.png
