The father should have taught Kendrick how to swing a bat with a demonstration of some wood to his kneecap. The guy obviously doesn't deserve everything that comes with being a pro ball player if he can't sign for a kid, so he deserves to have it taken away. This, of course, assuming the story is true the way it is written.

Most idiotic statement of the day and we're barely halfway through it. Do you have any idea how many graphers "hire" kids to get their crap signed? Obviously not based on your ignorant statement. While he could have handled it better (if the story is accurate), he doesn't owe that family or anybody else anything. The entitlement of some people is RIDICULOUS.

Didn't click the link, but I was reading about it a couple of days back that the family members literally started blowing up Kendrick on Twitter talking trash. Cousins, friends, uncles, whatever....they were just harassing him for not signing and taking a picture w/ the kid.
I don't give a **** what the circumstances are. If somebody makes my child cry, I'm going to get in their face, not just drive by. Probably something along the lines of how he should be honored to sign for a kid since he's mediocre, something about his ***** wife, etc. Actual physical violence with the bat wasn't meant to be literal.

Nobody forced the guy to play pro sports. If he didn't want kids admiring him and wanting his autograph, he could have went and been a bank clerk. Obviously dealers hire kids to get autographs. We're not talking about dozens of people hounding him at a game. We're talking about one kid with one card and a camera. But you didn't actually read the full story my comments were based from, so you didn't know that. Great grounds for you to form the opinion that my statement is ignorant.

We're talking about a single eight year old kid asking, and him being a complete ass. If he would have turned him down nicely, it's one thing, but his handling of it is ridiculous with a kid. He doesn't deserve the splendors of being a celebrity if he can't handle the setbacks.

As far as going and buying him a signed baseball card, it's not the same as meeting a pro ball player and getting him to sign it specifically for you. Some people don't understand that. All of these cards we collect with signatures were just a guy doing it for a check; a product of a job. Them signing for the kid is taking a few seconds of their day to acknowledge why they're able to do what they do for huge paychecks, and thanking them for being a fan. Hell, many of us adults still get star struck like a kid sometimes.

And again, this is assuming the story in the Op is true as written.

There is a lot more. His twitter is filled with people for him, and a lot against him.

Actually a really nice guy. Gotta lotta people that would vouch for that. Now I'm very glad I didn't sign.

you're officially blocked also maybe if some parents weren't so rude people would be nicer
.

I guess when people demand you sign and show up with camera in hand I'm supposed to jump. No respect guess it runs in your fam.

It's the mans home. His Private space for him and his family. Why show up on his doorstep and think its the same as the ballpark?

It's not his place of work and he has the right to be angry. He is a representation of the Angels organization when he is at sponsored events and not his front yard.

People need to leave him alone. Maybe he wasn't sociable to others there because of people like this, who want to just "get in" to get free stuff. Honesty and sincerity go a long way in life.

Which it isnt. Thats one side of the story. Seems the whole neighborhood had a opinion on him already. For all we know they hounded him for the past few months for autos. I refuse to buy some but hurt entitled parents account of what happened. And as I said before all they had to do was go up to him without the kid and ask if its ok. The guy was moving for christs sake not sitting in his front yard at an autograph booth. Maybe they should teach the child not to cry when he dont get what he wants.

It seems to me the child may have cried because the parents more than likely over reacted THAN the child cried. I doubt highly he said no and the the kid started balling. It sounds as if they stood there caused a scene went home had the husband cause a scene then called the rest of the family to cause a scene.

I kind of doubt that the kid even knew who the guy was. A lot of this seems made up to make Kendrick look bad.

When did I say I didn't read the story? I clearly stated I read the story a few days back, but didn't click the exact link he provided. Reading comprehension is not your friend, apparently. My point is, he doesn't owe anybody anything other than to play the game to the best of his abilities. I don't give a flying F if he made a kid cry, which is more than likely a severe exaggeration of the circumstances to drum up sympathy, he was at his private residence going about his business. If the parent were to have asked beforehand or perhaps approached nicer, he probably would have signed.

Kendrick's response on Twitter shows that he was upset most about how he felt disrespected by the approach, and I think I'm going to take his side on it considering the quality of people he's up against (athlete refuses to sign ball for son? Let's call TMZ and other news outlets to tell everybody he is mean!).

Some of you people don't understand that he is Kendrick's neighbor. Neighbors are supposed to do things for each other. I know that our neighbors are there for us if we need something. All Kendrick had to do was take 3 seconds out of his life. I HIGHLY doubt his neighbor is going to sell that card on eBay. If he would have, then they would have bothered Kendrick all season.

2 things.

Kendrick was moving, so they couldn't have bothered him all season (next year).

We don't know if the kid was getting the graph for himself or his parents, or a friend.

Of course if the neighbors didn't intend to profit in some way, why would they run to the media to cry foul?

You probably can't make more than a couple bucks off of a Howie Kendrick signed card. It's too bad he didn't sign the card to make the kid happy, but it's his right to not sign if he doesn't want to.

And if that neighbor needed privacy or requested it I would grant it. I wouldn't run over with a child and beg in his driveway while the man is leaving. It was quite clear he wasnt trying to make friends or fans. Like I said earlier this is half a story from a family who overreacts when they dont get an autograph on the mans private property.

I dont think they where trying to sell it as a matter of fact I am pretty sure of this. But there is wayyy more to this story than that's being told.

I think Kendrick nailed it by what he wrote on his twitter. He said that these people felt some sort of entitlement; they deserved an autograph and a picture. He signs almost everyday at Angels stadium, he also has had quite a few paid and free signings the past couple years in the area. If these people truly just wanted an autograph, and did it in the right manner, they would've came away with one.
