Hurricanes name Eric Staal their Captain

the Hurricanes announced today that Eric Staal will be the team's Captain. Rod Brind'Amour has been the Captain since August of 2005 but the team is obviously being built around Staal. I thought when he signed his contract extension in the off-season that they would have made him Captain then and this seems like a strange time to make the move but congrats to him.

Brind'Amour will be an assistant Captain and still have a large leadership role with the team but his career is winding down. he is the only Captain to raise the Stanley Cup for the 'Canes and was their 12th Captain in franchise history and 4th since relocating to Carolina from Hartford.

I've said it before, but I HATE the 'Canes...but if there is one guy on that team you've got to respect, it's Staal.

It was only a matter of time he got the "C". Congrats to him.
