Really? Its a lot of jewish players. not sure why it would bother you its not offensive to anyone to put jewish in the title even if it was just the koufax card. And why is it hard to understand why he put that in there hes trying to get another audience to look at his auction. Just as there are player or set collectors there are guys that collect players from certain countries, states, cities, etc and yes even guys that collect players of certain religions.

There is a significant little niche of collectors who collect Jewish players exclusively, all the way back to the House of David. I've seen cards sell for well above VCP because "Jewish" was in the title. Those who are collecting this way obviously aren't taking offense...though I agree it's a bit unexpected.

I don't really see what the big deal is. They're all Jewish baseball players and he states in the description it's his collection of players in what is his opinion of the Jewish baseball hall of fame or something like that.

I understand that. Just seems a little weird that he thought he had to put that in there.

Some people collect players of Mexican decent, others of Canadian and some of Jewish. Not sure why it would bother you unless your trying to play the 'racism', 'anti-Jews' card. Because he put it in his title it bothers you? Maybe you should explain WHY it bothers you.

Come on what about the board member that only collected Mexican players. Are you offended by that.

He was key wording and hoping someone else collects only Jews.

Wasn't there a set a couple years back of all the Jewish players in MLB history?

Yes there was, a couple of them I think. If you search "Jewish" in the baseball card section, there are currently 13 listings, including a 1914 Zinn for $250K. Wow, that's kind of an amazing price.

Either way, five thousand years of shining tradition from Moses to Sandy Koufax.

And some of them are card collectors.

I liked the way he listed it. A good attempt at a different angle of collecting, maximizing search hits with a different audience, not just a normal cut and dry listing. I think he uses creativeness, a good marketing technique, and definitely isn't offensive. If anything, it gives a good shout out to the Jewish baseball collecting world. Not that I've listed a card quite like that, but similarly, I have maximized my search hits and probably the amount I made by adding ***** League(s) to autographs I've sold like Leon Day, Ted Radcliffe, Wilmer Fields, etc.

Listen. I am Jewish. This doesn't offend me but yes, it's a little weird.

You definately wouldn't see:

Bonds Henderson ALL BLACK PLAYERS or something like that.....

I think it's because there is no connection from Judaism to baseball. There have been Jewish players. Some good, some great! Some horrible. But someone being Jewish has nothing to do with baseball, the bat, the score, etc.

It is weird.....but not terribly offensive.

I like because of the slavery in this country, using a label like "black" calls out racism (certainly Al Shrapton and Jesse Jackson will have you believe so.) Because of this, it is not a label that can be used, despite the fact that I am sure that there are African Americans who take pride in their heritage and do collect players with the same background. Thankfully in this country, Jews have remained (for the most part) free of prejudice and racism is much less overt (though anyone who thinks it does not exist is fooling themselves.) Because of this the listing does not immediately call out anything negative, and it can be a benefit to those who collect Jewish players.

This is pretty much how I feel. I ment no racism by it I just found it weird that he was keywording Jewish Players. I collect Sandy Koufax and I don't think about him being Jewish.

It's just another dimension in advertising. Niche collecting is an integral part for many. As a Mormon, I collect Mormon ballplayers from the past, present and future (Bryce Harper). I think it helps collectors to add another dimension to something that is very important to them. I hope that makes sense.

Over the last 18 years in the various boards I have participated in, there have been several people who have come and gone who specialized their collections on Jewish major league baseball players. I'm assuming this is the niche audience the seller was hoping to attract. I've seen and purchased lots that have "all ***** league" in the auction title. I have family members and friends who are jewish and they use the phrase "jew" and "jewish" quite frequently in normal conversation. I know you already know this but some people don't understand that these are not bad words unless they are used in a derogatory manner.

Also, I second the above statements that there was a set released that was all Jewish players. 2003 Jewish Major Leaguers. Koufax is card #1
