Rewind back to 2002.....I am at a small local card show, and I have about $75 to throw away on something. I spent an hour or so walking around trying to decide what I want to spend it on and seeing what is being offered.

I finally narrow it down between 2 items, an Adam Vinatieri signed football (remember, he had just won the SB against the Rams) and a Tom Brady card. The dealer tells me he will sell me the Tom card for $60, but I was thinking this Tom Brady guy would NEVER do this again. And I had met Adam a few months before and became a big fan of his. So I decided on the signed Vinatieri football.

What Brady card did I pass on? The 2000 Playoff Contender Rookie Ticket autographed Tom Brady! $#*%@*#$!!!!!

Yep, could have had that bad boy for $60. HOW DUMB AM I?? ::facepalm::

Thank you for dredging up this wonderful memory. I think I will now go sort through my 800 count box of 86 Fleer Sam Bowie cards.

My story is just a big downer any time I think of it. It was back when Ryan Howard was just getting his chance in the Big Leagues. I was at a local show. I had about 1000.00 to spend on cards. I remember this like it was yesterday. The guy had 15 - 2003 Bowman's Best Ryan Howard RCs Autos. This was when they were going for around the 50.00 range. He also had 50 of the 2001 UD Prospect Premiere Ryan Howard cards as well which were going for 2.00 each.

Fast Forward to when he was going crazy and those Bowman's Best were going for around 450.00 and the UD PPs were going for 25.00. I could have had all of those cards for 850.00. If I would have sold them when the boom hit I would have made approximately 7200.00. Now that really sucks!!!!!

I always say this when a thread like this pops up: Pujols' RCs when they were truly inexpensive. I was young, so I didn't have a lot of money, but I could have bought many 2001 autographs for under $80. And obviously sell them three or four years later for a massive profit. Just one BC auto and I would have been sitting pretty. Oh and Longoria BC autos when they were under $100, and then sell when he emerged as a force in the playoffs.

Pablo Sandoval I remember...I remember buying a bunch of his stuff for pennies after checking his milb stats out and thinking he was a good penny stock but i ended up only making maybe $100 bucks (on a $10 investment however)....I could have picked up gold refs/orange refs galore for $5 a pop and sold them for $100+ I remember back in the day...I sold a bit early

Speaking of basketball cards, my Dad and I were huge fans, so I used to buy a ton of the 87/88 fleer basketball packs that my local card shop had (and would get openly mocked by my friends for doing so....who were buying 87 topps packs). The biggest regret I have from that time is that my Dad kept urging me to get Jordan's rookie card - and I asked the card shop owner how much it would cost...he said 5 bucks...never followed up on it, since he would have had to track one down. ::facepalm::

1996-7 topps chrome basketball boxes at Wal-Mart.

I remember being in Walmart and they had one of those displays in the middle of the aisle, probably dozens of boxes. I never collected basketball, though I was mildly intrigued by Kobe and Iverson. Didn't buy a single pack.

The one that really gets me, I was in a Toys R Us in the fall of 1992 and they had one of those big boxes, probably 4 feet cubed, filled with 1992 Topps Traded sets for $6.99. I had spent probably $150 or more buying packs to build a Topps set that year, but that was before I graduated from college and by the fall I had about $50 to my name. What I was doing in TRU I don't know, probably just killing time, hoping to find an undiscovered stash of 1998 basketball SLUs or something. But anyway, I didn't buy a single set. A few years later, Nomar's a $120 card...a $700 investment that day could've led to $10K.

Plus just about every notable card from when I was a kid at the GW Motor Lodge shows. All those HOF RCs at what are pennies on the dollar today.

The 2005 Sweet Spot Classic patch set was selling for peanuts compared to now. I remember the Jackie Robinson and Joe DiMaggio patches were selling for under $200. I was collecting the set, but I passed on a Robinson for a $175 BIN because a few others had sold for around that and I thought I would be able to get one for less. I probably could have bought 5-6 for the price they sell for now, not to mention all the other great players. Also, I passed on a 2009 Ultimate Clemente patch for a $500 BIN, which was one of the nicer ones.
