I ended mine on sunday night. :( Not sure why, but I'm not too upset. After fees, I think I broke even.

if tex was a decent rookie prospect today, i could see this, but he has been an established player now for
7 years, why does going to the yankees jam his prices up? is it strictly about yankee collectors?
i would think they would wait for him in a NY uniform. i just dont see why him going to the yanks would cause
his rookie stuff to go up, is being a yankee mean he will hit 60 homers?

Nice flips! This always happens without fail when someone is traded to the Yankees. Even the 1989 Fleer Randy Johnson RC card went up when he became a Yankee and there is no shortage of supply there!

I cashed in before when Beltran was supposed to go to the Yankees back in 2005(?). I traded a Beltran auto which had skyrocketed at the time for this Rivera auto. It is my favorite autograph in my PC to date....2004 Donruss Recollection Collection Autograph Mariano Rivera #ed 22/23

I'm in the process (sold my Ultimate and SPx, still have the Donruss Signature on now.)

Just another reason that investing in established guys provide fairly safe investments with serious opportunity.

As for the price increase, it's ridiculous. It is not a direct result of the increase in the number of fans, and is another display of how the card market works. Right now people are convinced that being in NY and Boston provides such a boost that they are paying huge increases for any player who goes to either one (especially NY) and a player who goes pretty much anywhere else drops. It takes someone who's a step ahead to really capilatize on this, and see where this trend amongst others is heading. In past years this was not the case (certainly not to this degree.)

That said, I've sold Teixeira, Burnett and Sabathia RC Auto's in the last couple of weeks, all for far more than they cost. The Yanks are carrying the card market right now. :)

I'm not sure how you don't understand that his playing for the team with the biggest following would cause his prices to spike.

His reasoning makes sense if you view the market like most do. 99% of people think that the only time to invest in a player is when they are a prospect. While this is not true, the spike does not make a tremendous amount of sense. The fact is that players who come to the Yankees (and even career Yankees) do not necessarily sell for much more than people in other cities. Posada is a great catcher, whose cards are fairly cheap (auto's are high but that's because he doesn't sign much.) Bernie Williams, Jason Giambi, Paul O'neil, Tino Martinez etc. Even Alex Rodriguez has not really seen major price increases due to being in NY. His prices in Seattle were (I believe, this is based on memory, not on stats) as high if not higher than they are now in NY.

It's a cyclical market. The market acts based on its own beliefs, many of which are not accurate. I believe that this is one example. Throw in the handful of people who always buy when a new player joins a team (similar to when a prospect makes the bigs for the first time,) and the prices took a nice hike up.
