love watching him play... he keeps improving... was really starting to look like a beast out there, but the man is just unlucky. i can't imagine how frustrating it must be for him

That's really horrible! Just when it looks like a team may someday challenge the Lakers.... :D
Man I miss the days of Kareem, Akeem, David Robinson, Ewing, Manute Bol, the days of the "real" center are gone w/ this injury...Odom was the final hope!

Sam Bowie 2.0, Blazers are going to have egg on their faces for the next 15 years as Durant becomes a HOFer.

I don't really agree. This pick was different than taking Bowie, which was just over-valueing a player.

Maybe he'll have some more time to rehab than normal just to make sure he is all the way healthy.

And I still think Portland's long-term outlook is very good.

:| I just does not look good for Oden even long term. I would think that this will (or already has) stay in his head and potentially affect his game for the rest of his career. He will not want to jump the same and will not want to take risk which will limit his potiential. This doea suck as I wanted to see this guy emerge into a force!

Actually I think the Trailblazers are better off without him. Last year when he was hurt they were legitimate contenders and one of the few teams that were a threat to the Lakers. Fortunately for the Lakers they were eliminated early because the Lakers can't win in Portland. Oden will never be a star in the NBA, just a semi-talented big man.

I have a real hard time believing that anybody would have taken Durant over Oden. Oden bought too much potential to the table.

i would have 100 percent, the scoring durant put up in college was that of an elite player...oden really didnt show me much in college to be honest.

I don't think he is ever going to be healthy for any considerable stretch of time. He doesn't run like someone in their young 20s, he runs like someone in their young 40s.

Wait...are we talking about how he runs or how he looks?

I would have Durant but Blazers were already filled in every position and they needed a big man. That man was Oden and he became a walking injury. In the future if the Blazers get in top 3 of the draft they should trade it away. It's been costly for them. We can complain about Bowie but Blazers already have Clyde Drexler in the same position as Jordan. What else could they do? They end up drafting very high at wrong time.

The Blazers didn't need a scorer like Durant at the time. They needed a big man on defense. Everyone can say they would have taken Durant NOW, but any team would have taken Oden as the first pick if they had the chance. Getting rid of Channing Frye and Sergio Rodriguez and picking Andre Miller seems to have been the Blazers biggest mistakes. Not taking Oden.
