Wow. There are some terrible sellers out there. First of all, you yourself stated that the price you got was low, so why not accept not completing the transaction, get your fees back and try for a better price? And setting yourself up for a negative... I hope it is worth it. I know I would rather work with him and NOT get a negative. I guess that's just me.

So you wouldn't hold him accountable for his actions? Its really not that hard to retract a bid.

theory, how about you take a look at my feedback, ask my 5-6 regular weekly buyers if they enjoy all the freebies they get from me, and then make this statement. i dont give a crap? you sir, are officially out of your mind. this is principle, not be nice to every moron cus mommy caught them on the computer. i dont know what ill do, but i know after 5 years without a neg and 13000 positives, i dont much care about one neg to prove a point. pretty low blow telling me i dont give a crap. way to stick up for the board member.

It's nothing personal, I just would have went about it differently is all. Everyone is different, I just stated how I would have handled it. I care about MY account more than the integrity of other buyers. There are a lot of idiots out there, such as your buyer, but I would have chalked it up to "no big deal" and simply resold it (ESPECIALLY since you weren't happy with the price to begin with).

So a terrible seller is holding a buyer to a price he won a card at, even though the seller feels it was low??? Hmmmm...seems like a pretty honest buyer where he's willing to sell the card lower than he wanted to, because he's sticking to his end of the deal...

Customer service. The first thing I tell that guy after his message is "No problem. We will mutually agree to not complete the transaction so I get my fees back." Not, "You are an idiot and a liar and I will hold you to your end of the deal and take a negative!!!" There are two kinds of sellers, people who sell and treat it like a business, and others who sell and don't give a crap.

But the fact is that this buyer obviously had NO intentions of buying the card. He bid 18 hours before the auction ended and had PLENTY of time to retract his bid.

Mutually agreeing to not complete the transaction is what allows tools like this to stay on ebay and continue to do this to other sellers. It's a waste of time for sellers, it could mean a loss of money for a seller (what happens if Uggla - or whoever it was - blows out his knee tomorrow?) These are the types of buyers who need to be removed from ebay...and filing NPB's against them is the only way to do that.

I guess if you are more worried about what other people do and not about your own account, this is the correct way to look at it. I sell for myself, not to clean up eBay.

And that's the difference.

To me, I'll sacrifice a negative to try and get idiots like that off ebay. In fact, in my nearly 10 years on ebay, I have one negative, and it was for this EXACT type of situation. I don't regret the negative at all and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Fact is this...mutually agree to not do the deal, or file an NPB and take the negative...you're still not getting paid.

In boomo's case, one negative's not going to affect him one bit, especially when you can respond to that negative saying "buyer refused to pay for item." His regular customers won't care, cause they know what they're getting...

Some do care about the ebay "community" and are not just about themselves.

Actually you did make it personal by basically calling him a "terrible seller" because he's holding a buyer accountable.

He IS a terrible seller. Look at the way he talked to that guy. I would NEVER talk to a customer that way. It doesn't matter what the buyer did, to talk to someone like that is so very unprofessional.

Negatives on eBay are like single moms. At first it's shocking because it doesn't happen very often, but after awhile, it becomes commonplace and people move on with their lives.

Glad someone caught that :)

He IS a terrible seller. Look at the way he talked to that guy. I would NEVER talk to a customer that way. It doesn't matter what the buyer did, to talk to someone like that is so very unprofessional.

Then dont backpeddle and say you didnt make it personal when you did. Talking out of both sides of your mouth isnt very professional either.

I'm a little ahead of myself. I am really NOT trying to say he is a terrible seller, but it came out that way. I just think his customer service skills leave a little to be desired. I'm sorry if I got insulting, boomo, sometimes I type with my fingers and not my head.

I understand good customer service and wanting to help the customer out as much as you can. So does Matt(Boomo). If he really couldn't have canceled his bid(which with 18 hours left he could have) he should have emailed the seller and I'm sure Matt would have canceled it for him. Since he did actually bid and not try to take care of it I completely agree with wanting to hold him accountable. People that go around bidding with no intention of paying and then lying about it really have no business on ebay or any other site that you can buy/sell on. Just my opinion.

I was a customer service supervisor for years and I can tell you that sometimes the best customer service is letting them know they are in the wrong. If you continue to bend over and take it the customers will take advantage of everything you do. Of course there is a reason I left that industry and that is because the general public is full of idiots.

So, you are judging Matt's complete selling accumen and professionalism based on this one transaction with someone who obviously does NOT understand that he entered into a CONTRACT to complete a transaction.

"Just ignore his antics and let the seller get away with piss-poor eBay dealings"--that's your summation of the situation? Then I guess catching a drunk guy pulling into his driveway should be no big deal either, since he didn't hit you on the way home; no harm, no foul...

Maybe you should try reading ALL the posts before replying. I apologized to him, but his communication skills are so mighty, he insulted me after I did. After seeing that, his situation does not surprise me in the least.

Look at the time difference between your apology and his comment. About a minute apart.

I am just wondering what is your ebay sellers ID? I would like to add you to my favorites. I'm sure you don't mind sharing. Thanks

Now, now; don't make this out like you guys were talking back-and-forth in a bar. You know as well as everyone else on this board that thousands of posts get submitted before replys are posted or at the same time that the responder is typing. try acting like you've been here for a minute.

And none of this would have been an issue if you hadn't called him a terrible seller. You're entitled to your opinion, by all means; but don't get your ******* in a twist when everyone thinks you're wrong. That's simply their opinions of you.

It's all good, man. My fingers get ahead of my head sometimes (I should have re-phrased that). I do not believe you are a bad seller, I simply would have handled it differently. Hopefully you can get more for it next time (and actually get paid :)).
