I will also add comparing players with Championship is the dumbest thing in all of sports... Its a team accomplishment.. not a player accomplishment... I still dont understand how people think this is the most important thing... Some players like KOBE were blessed to be traded to a good team.. that trade never happens where is Kobe right now? Prob LA as a Free Agent!

You can't win in the playoffs going one on 5, although LeBron came pretty close before. Playoff basketball is much more physical, and going up against the best teams in the league every night will really hurt a team with only one reliable option. Another thing to consider is how the average to good players they had seemed to disappear in the playoffs. How many duds did Mo Williams put up in the playoffs even if he was a good player during the regular season. Call it playoff experience problems, I call it having a supporting cast that doesn't have the ability to shine when the spotlight is on them.

Ask Barkley, Dan Marino, or Ewing if they feel their legacy is tarnished from not having a ring. I just listened to Barkley talk about this on a podcast, and he definitely sees it that way. Getting a ring doesn't make you an all time great, but people look differently at the all time greats that don't have a ring.

Malone and Stockton didn't win because they had the bad luck of going up against the bulls when they were pretty much unbeatable. Robinson did stick around, but got lucky as hell to get Duncan. He was injured most of the season, so the Spurs were near the top of the draft and got very lucky in beating the celtics for the #1 pick. Getting Parker and Ginobili was good drafting, but that was after they got Duncan.

As far as how people view the ring if lebron wins this year, that's up to them. I've watched the games and Lebron has been brilliant. He's the best 1 on 1 defender in the league, and is putting up his usual offensive stats. He's closed games out both offensively and defensively. He's been the best player on this team during the playoffs. Most people have already made up their mind on if he rode on Wade's back or not without even watching a game. One thing that pisses me off about the whole situation is how Wade gets away without the hatred lebron gets, when Wade had just as much to do with it as Lebron.

Now, I'm not saying it's good for the NBA to have these superstar teams, but it isn't bad either. If this is the current course that the NBA is on, then it's certainly going to attract a lot of attention. Look at how much attention the Celtics got, and the Heat are now getting. What if the Lakers get Howard to pair with Gasol and Kobe? What if New York lands Paul to go with Amare and Melo? It hurts the small market teams, but imagine the ratings of a Lakers with those three players vs. the Heat finals.

At the end of the day, people have made up their mind on Lebron and nothing he did in the past or does going forward will change their minds.

Atleast we agree that the problem lies in the post season. I dont think Lebron had a good team in Cleveland. I thought he had a winning team with no post season experience. Only time can fix that. Along with upgrades in players. Does Lebron have the time? We dont know. How we feel about the way he left and the reason as to why he left are all opinions. Mine happens to be different than yours. I can live with either side of the argument. As for Wade? I think he is a good player but injury prone. Can be lazy at times as well. But Wade doesnt get the hatred because he essentially invited these two bums to "His" team. He didnt bail from a city or keep them hanging on a decision. He didnt play a ratings game and keep fans on edge to see what their hometown hero was going to do when all along he knew full well what his plans were. I think Lebrons case is worse because he did it in bad taste. It was like a big let down. Suspense for nothing. Hope for nothing!! He knew full well what he was going to do...so why not just fess up and say it. The critisism would have been much lighter if he never took his fans for a ride!

I know for sure guys like Marino, Barkley and Ewing will say that without a ring, they are not held as high on a pedestal when it comes to the greats without a ring. I think any player will say that. But who is judging them? The same people judging Lebron? The same people he doesnt care about what they think? That makes it a moot point. At the end of the day a true basketball fan will look at stats and era before hardware. Im one of those people. The pereception of declaring the best players in the game shouldnt be based on hardware or else guys like Adam Morrison and John Salley make that list. I think the MVP award is bogus too. Any award based on votes is a sham.

As for your ratings argument on stacked teams? I dont think the knicks, Lakers or Chicago need the boost in ratings. They have a good market share on their games. Its the little guys that need it more. The smaller markets dont get a huge chunk of the NBA tv deals like NY and LA get. They fight for a lot of spread $$. As for Miami, it is like a top 10 city in North America and rightfully has a large market share. I just think there needs to be more competition and not concentrated competition. LIke I stated before, Im not up for watching 2 all star teams go at it. It defeats the purpose of watching an exciting game outside of lighting up the scoreboard.

Lebron is the best player in the game.. either you admit or you hate him..... I am a fan of great basketball players... I think being a fan of a team in the NBA is overrated... Players move around more then in any other sport... If you want to hate on Miami because your from any of the cities he didnt choose to play at.. That is just weak.. If you hate on Lebron because your a fan of Kobe, Rose or anyone else you think is better.. you being proven wrong and your bitter about it...

LOL. So im being forced to like Lebron because He is a good basketball player? Liking players and disliking them is an opinion. I hate lebron, but have no issues admitting he is one the best players in the game!! I dislike him for other reasons. I think fans have the right to dislike and like the players they want!!

When I say that Jordan made Pippen a better player, I don't mean that Pippen was crap without him. I really feel that Pippen was able to develop into the player he was because of Jordan. Without those years of MJ, I think Pippen is just one of those guys with skill who floats around to fill holes here and there. Jordan rubbed off on everyone on that team, including Pippen, and that gave him the little extra to be the player he turned out to be.

We won't ever really know since you can't change history, but that's still my opinion.

I agree with you that there is no way to prove one way or another, but he's definitely still a great player even without MJ pushing him. The guy averaged just about 24/10/5 in his senior year of college with 3 steals per game and shooting 60% from the field. While you may be right that Jordan pushed him to work harder in the gym to get to that extra level, he was still an elite player before even stepping on the court with Jordan.

One thing that really jumps out at me is the time he walked out on his team during the playoffs when he was without MJ. If MJ is there, does that happen? Again, no way of knowing, but my speculation would be that no, he doesn't abandon the team because of the competitiveness of Jordan in the air.

If you're saying that he was more of a team player or leader because he had to while Jordan was around, then I agree 100%. You had to buy into what Michael wanted or you weren't going to last on his team. I don't think the example you are referring to takes away from what he could physically do on a basketball court, but I definitely see your point.

Yeah, I don't mean that Pippen didn't have the talent/ability. It's the other factors of what makes a player great.

The Pippen argument means little to me.....
Everyone would agree one player isn't going to win a Championship....every championship team is going to have supplemental players that excel. It's really irrelevant when it comes to Lebron.

To me the "Screw Lebron" sentiment is based on perception.....it's the inherit desire that many have to dislike the "superpower".
It's the cool kids grouping together and not including you. It's some rich guys getting together and freezing you out. It's someone privileged that can't have what they want and they change the rules to ensure an easier path.
(Sorry I'm still beyond pissed at the pathetic offensive display the Bulls showed tonight and throughout the series, to come up with more coherent analogies, but those provide the general gist.)

Point is - the anti-Lebron/Heat argument to me really isn't a sports argument...I think it touches on a lot of other nerves and happens to manifest itself through this example of an athlete/team.

If the Heat don't beat the Mavs, LeBron is going to call Kobe and Dwight Howard to negotiate a deal with them that gets them all to agree to get to the Lakers.

I agree. It's not that they joined together, it's that they didn't join together on "your" team (I use "your" as a collective term, not you specifically). If LeBron and Wade went to Chicago, the people in Chicago would love them and Miami would hate them. If they went to New York the same thing would happen.

Derrick Rose just experienced what Lebron JAmes experienced last year. the Cavs had the best record in basketball, but as has been stated one player cannot win a title. The Bulls had the best record this year and could not win the title. Consider the Jordan yearsIn the playoffs your weaknesses are exploited and the Heat ran multiple players at Rose and he seemede unsure of how to handle the pressure.

"Hate" is a very strong word.

My advice is to use it very carefully.

That being said, I'd love to see Dirk and Kidd take it.

I need to visit the basketball forum more. I can't stand Lebron. His little flop against the Bulls sums it up. I expect that type of garbage from Pau Gasol but not from a "superstar".
