To be fair, to incorporate the player picture without logo, Panini had a contract with both the MLBPA and the individual retired players/estates to utilize their likenesses. Leaf has nothing.

Didn't realize that. Well, I guess that answers my questions. Would it be possible for Leaf to obtain these licenses? What if the design included a shot of the stadium they played in? Does that require a license? I realize options are limited (more so then I initially thought), but there must be some design element that can be incorporated in the card that acknowledges that the person is an actual baseball player and what team they played for.
