There are some cards that people think will never reach that plateau again..

I'm sure they said that when Gretzy and his partner spent $450K for that Wagner.. What was the last sale? Wasn't it around $2.5M..

Every person on here has bought cards just because they like the card and are not looking to get rid of them.. I guess everyone that spends more on cards than you must have lost their common sense..

Wait until the Auto'd Superfractor gets hit.. which should sell about two to three times what the non-auto'd version will get..

Totaly differant situation and the amount of money I spend has nothing to do with it, although making it personal makes sense for this board. ::facepalm::

Its my opinion and that of many others. Common sense may have been a broad statement but really its nothing more/less than gambling.

My wife says it's just like opening pulltabs.. :D

Most are throw aways, but once in awhile you hit a good one.. which makes you buy more!! :D

and another factor is hes a pitcher.. can you imagine what the hype would be if hes a hitter?

even if a pitcher does good a lot of people lose interest.

I mean Roy is probably the best right now, yet hitters 1-15 are worth more IMO

We'll see next year

Think Bryce Harpers first Bowman Chrome Superfractor after he gets drafted an he is in his new teams jersey. I think it would be sweet if the Nats took him an they had both Stras an Harper lol.....

With maybe one or two notable exceptions, I don't think anyone here expects an experienced baseball card collector or investor to pick this card up.

The real "target market" for many cards like this isn't necessarily a collector or investor who knows a bunch about cards, but maybe a whale who enjoys baseball, has recently heard about Stras and thought it might be fun to pick up after hearing about the card's hype. Its always easiest to sell to (or 'reel in') someone who isn't going to miss the cash and doesn't know or care that the value of the card will likely decrease.

In this regard, its not necessarily gambling per se on the buyer's behalf.

Lol, have fun with that. When he flops, you lose. When you pay 10k+ for a card, even if he has a 10 great years, you honestly believe someone will be willing to pay even more?

I dont see it, and regardless of your opinion, or mine, "rolling 10K" on a prospect isnt common sense its gambling, plain and simple.

The above post got me thinking.

Has this gotten any National media coverage? It really seems like something that Good Morning America, Today Show, Regis & Kelly might run a small little snippet on. If I were the seller I would try to contact someone to get this out to every possible buyer. You never know, Trump might want to own it just to say he owns it.

make sure you can show a loss this year on sportscards.

one of my good friends/business partner is an accountant that does my taxes and I am sure I can come up with a loss on the year for cards

Yeah I saw that and I was like "WTF?"

Considering that SCF has ZERO to do with this, it pisses me off. Yet another reason why Mike Silva and Gilmore need a cage match at the national.

because SCF has a 5 year head start and a better domain name. They will probably always be the board of casuals.

And I would crush him, it wouldn't be much of a match.

I just sent a nice email to Keith, the author of the article, on behalf of the FCB.

Just letting him know a member here pulled the card and it originated from our site.

If you would like to do that same, feel free. Please keep is civil though!
