Started offering free shipping about a month and a half ago to get the FVF discount.
Today I check my powerseller account and see my search standing is "lowered." Why? Because of a low shipping and handling cost rating.

That happened to me as well. I am very close to PS status, but my DSR for shipping is a freakin 4.0 and everything else is 4.8, 4.9. ARGH.

Sorry to hear that but it just goes to show that no matter what you do some people are never satisfied. You might as well charge something, $2 seems like a decent amount which should cover the postage and off-set your fees.

Thankfully I've never had ratings low enough to disqualify me from getting a discount, but I too, somehow have a less than perfect rating for shipping charges, despite not chariging shipping. I would also love to know who marked me down for communication or shipping time.

I raised mine higher than I like to have them. I was offering free shipping. Now that I have raised them to what I feel is highway robbery my numbers have went up.

Just out of curiosity what do you charge? I charge $3 flat no matter how many auctions are won within 48 hours and my DSR for S&H is 4.7/5.0. I was thinking of dropping it down to $2.75 but wondered if it would really matter.

I think psychologically for buyers to pay $2.99 vs. $3 for shipping makes all the difference.

3.50 i double package and use new packaging and card supplies. When I was doing 2 - 2.50 i was getting lower numbers even w/ the same supplies.

I charge the exact same, $3 no matter how many you win. Mine, for the last 30 days(which is all that matters in terms of a discount) is 4.94. I've never given free shipping and my DSR is 4.9, 4.9, 4.9 and 4.8(for shipping). But again, if you check your seller dashboard, the last 30 day rating is all that matters for your upcoming discount.

Yep, I'm a PS and have all the numbers for a 15-20% FVF discount (which would save me a huge amount) except for shipping costs which is .1 too low. I changed all 200ish items in my store to free shipping and am now only charging $2 on auctions. Hoping that helps me enough to grab a nice discount.
Do people really put this much effort into DSRs? When I leave feedback, it's just 5 stars no matter what unless there was something ridiculous that happened, such as taking 2 weeks to arrive or charging $5+ for regular first class.

Yeah I know what you mean and have always wondered how people fall for that.

Also, I think shipping speed is all that matters. If you get them the item instantly, there is no way in hell they leave less than 5 stars across the board, so just focus on that.

If offering free shipping saved you 10% of your FVF on eligible items, would you have saved more of FVF thsn you spent on shipping?

Another thing which I think affects my SH price ratings is the label on the package from the PO. MY PO only charges $.64 to send a bubble mailer with one card, rather than $1.13 or whatever most PO's use. The buyer sees I only paid $.64 and they pay $3 and have a field day with my DSR.

To tell you the truth that is my reasoning when leaving feedback.

If the buyer has a PO like mine, they probably ended up with postage due because they bumped the package from first class to priority. Had that happen a few times, with and without DC. Pissed me off to no end.

Your Post Office is undercharging you and you'd be better off just using paypal shipping and paying the right price but keeping the price off the label.
