Why do hockey jerseys and patches outsell every other sport? They wear the biggest jerseys and have the most patch, but a Sidney Crosby piece of jersey will sell for like 10x an Albert Pujols or Peyton Manning Jersey.

Yet, the Auto-Patches or AUTO-GU, sell for around the same prices.

Don't get it.

and...

What year are those new OPC Retro Rookies from?

Don't really know the answer to the question but I have noticed that trend.
I was looking at Yankee game used patch cards the other and I couldn't believe
how cheap some of them were. The player I collect doesn't usually get to costly
but Crosby,I don't know how anybody can afford to collect him.I certainly can't.

For one, I'm sure if you looked there are probably 10x more Pujols patches/jersey's out there than there are of say Crosby.

Second, keep in mind you've got an entire second country that is all about Crosby. Pujols, mainly just US people. Crosby, the Canadians go NUTS over him and he's huge in the US as well. On top of that, he's probably also fairly collectible overseas. Pujols, not so much.

Lastly, while Hockey jerseys are bigger, I'd actually be curious as to know how many jerseys a hockey player goes through a year versus what a baseball player goes through. Keep in mind 82 games vs. 162 games.

Ultimately though, my point #2 is likely the biggest reason. If you sell hockey stuff you'd be a fool not to sell to Canada. Baseball or football, it's not as big a deal.

Well said on the Crosby point...

Yah, I'm Canadian. But I noticed it across the board. You could just as easily compare ovechkin to pujols or whomever. I just picked the two biggest names I could think of.

I sold a 2x Jersey of Malkin and Ovechkin from the one box of SPX I opened for $25 and I can't think of a single baseball jersey that's come close to that. We're talking HOFers pre-1970 for that price.

If you run a completed auction search of MANUFACTURER, YEAR, GU, -AUTO*, -PATCH* (ie. 2008 UD JERSEY -AUTO* -PATCH*) and you sort by highest price first all you'll get is Baseball HOFers, Michael Jordan, and hockey guys.

It's crazy.
