To the seller:

Did you take off work this week?

How many hours of the day are you watching the auction?

Make sure you file this on your tax returns. You know the IRS is watching.

Yeah, that is bs too! You should not have to pay tax on that! How many thousands of $ have u spent on junk packs over the years? I would send a message to the high bidder and tell him u will sell I'm person for $16,000. That way you van save evilbay fees, save paypal and postage, and avoid tax hit.

Yes, because tax avoidance is the way to go. Not many people have a clean 16k+ that they can just pay out as cash, too.
The best thing to do would just be to pay the taxes and be on with your still-very-nice profit. And why shouldn't he be taxed? Do you know how much ANY merchant spends on goods to sell, and they have to pay taxes?

eBay has NEVER been "tax free" (it's called "other unreported income"). Most sellers just neglect to file. You better be careful, though -- just because you "get away with" not filing taxes on eBay profit doesn't mean someone somewhere isn't keeping track of it.

It is important to remember that eBay fees max out at $50.

High dollar sales are one of the few things that were helped by eBay's new fee policy.

But paypal fees on a $16,000 sale would be almost $500.

I don't know the best way to pay for something like this, but I'm assuming it isn't paypal...so those fees will likely be avoided anyway.

$50 fee on a $16,000+ sale is pretty darn good.

Also, it'd be pretty hard to dodge the IRS when they come knocking about the phantom $16k deposit you made.

That is why I avoid banks. I keep my money hidden in safes at 4 different homes in 4 different cities. I almost never use banks.
