I've heard he same 3/4" rule, pretty much every time I go to the PO.

Since I started reading these horror stories, I have always put a peanut in the mailer to make it over 3/4" thick, always have my packages hand-posted (not using paypal), and write 'do not bend' on the mailer.

It's by no means foolproof, but it doesn't hurt. I'm sure a lot of ya'll do similar.

As for the card, I would just find someone who likes McAllister and give it to them since it's damaged so severely.

I was told at my post office that an item cant go first class unless its 3/4" thick, that way its hand sorted and not machine sorted

I remember hearing something about machine/hand. I know under 13 oz can be 1st class. But for "thick" envelopes. Maybe that's where the 3/4 comes in. And over 3/4" for DC unless you ship Priority.

I dunno. I just take them in and they figure it out. 8-)

Just picked up a $10 card from the P.O. that cost an extra $4 because the sender didn't have it 3/4" and used DC. ::facepalm::

Ask your Post Office employee for a tool that they use to test thickness. My guy just gave me one.

I ship using Paypal. When I cut the label I roll the other half up in a ball and put it in the bottom other the envelope.I have never had an issue and it has cut down on alot of trash at my house.

What happened to it?

I think it got caught in the sorter or something. It is bent along the top right corner and has a big wrinkle all along the back.

Did you use a PWE?

No. Bubble Mailer, it also looks pretty beat up.

Here is the buyers pic of the card, you can see how it is bent.

What I don't understand is usually when this happens...doesn't the toploader get creased and bent to hell?I can take a card right now and put it in a toploader and kinda bend it a little(not a lot but a little) and it won't crease the card. But if I crease the hell out of the toplaoder then they same thing happens with the card. That toploader looks really unbent to me.Was it sent in the original toplaoder? If so I would wonder if he didn't bend it because he decided he didn't want it and didn't know what else to do.

rebelsbaseball3- How do you know he used Parcel Post? All 1st class is hand sorted?

Here's a card I won for around $5 awhile ago. Unfortunately it got the same sorter treatment.

I just had a Porcello Elite auto show up with a huge crease in it too. I think the USPS has something against 2008 Elite!

I have a Chad Henne contenders on the way back to me for the same BS. The main problem is, no matter how thick you make it or ask for it to be handled with care, there is always going to be a chance the bubble mailer goes thru the automated sorter.
This has now happened to me 3 times, with every card coming back damaged the same exact way. Mine are always 3/4 or more thick, printed out as non machineable, but once in a while they just get automated. And we are the ones who always take the hit, thanks to paypal.

if you are going to sell it put it in a heavy book first. it will get the folds out of the card but not the crease.
