I think Smoltz needs to retire.

He has had a amazing career but just looks old and cant locate his spots with his fastball. Right now he is costing the Sox games in a playoff run. I much rather see what Bowden can do and get him some experience instead of watching Smoltz get killed out there. Sorry for the rant, its just frustrating to watch.

WOW what a catch by Ellsbury, saved him another run.

I don't see him making another start, especially with Wakefield coming back next week and Buchholz pitching decently.

His next scheduled start is at Yankee stadium. If he makes that start he doesnt last 2 innings.

uh oh! I really hope Wake is back soon then. I had not checked the scheduled starters yet for that series, so that's a bit disheartening....hopefully it's not Penny too ::facepalm::

I'd have to echo the comments of the OP. I'm kind of over the whole Smoltz thing at this point, espesially considering the teams he's been facing. With the moves today though I would not be surprised to give him a shot in the bullpen once Wakefield rejoins the rotation.

Im all for him in the bullpen. He seems to have no problem the first time through the line-up, then he turns to crap. Maybe he will be more effective in the pen.
