Ok I have been selling for a few years now on eBay and this is a first.....

I email a seller who has a 2004 SP AUTO Gold #/10 for sale. It had a buy it now and auction format.

someone beat me to it and bid before I could buy.

I ended up getting the card on the side and the seller ended the item. I have done this NUMEROUS times, no first there. Here is the kicker:

The card came in the mail today. No tracking....no problem, not my position to tell the seller what to do.

he resued the envelope. No problem, I do this all the time, I received tons of them and recycle, I encourage it actually.

HOWEVER.....it was a mangled envelope.....I mean there no flap to close. NONE. The seller didn't bother to use ANY tape.....he tossed the card in the envelope and put it in the mail......TOTALLY exposed and OPEN......just a card in a toploader (THANK GOD) thrown in a WIDE OPEN envelope with no way to CLOSE it.

      WHAT are some people thinking??!!

Anyone else have this happen to them?

The silver lining is that the card which he said might be mint he doesn't really know, is an awesome canidate for a 9.5....or even a 10.

Please share any similar stories

So basically he the card could have fallen out at any point during shipment? That is very bizarre and so stupid.

YES exactly.....I never saw anything like that.....reuse the envelope and don't bother using a piece of tape lol.

I am TOO darn honest....I already emailed him and thanked him for the card.....I could have said there was an empty envelope and what the hell was he trying to pull? Wow.....luckily the card is immaculate.

Wow... the real shock is the card somehow stayed inside!

Pennsylvania to Connecticut in an open envelope, I am just speechless.

How the heck did it stay in? Almost makes me think it was sealed, but opened at some point late in the shipping stage. I can't see how it stayed in.

Wild story.

No flap whatsoever, no trace of any tape.....though he spelled my name wrong on the envelope and taped over someone else's name on the front....so we know the guy had access to tape at some point....amazing.

Huh, I thought there might have been a flap, but it was torn through it. Either way, I don't understand how it stayed in. Did he tape the card to the inside of the mailer. Kidding of course.

Have to agree!
No way the card stays in if it wasn't at least sealed at some point.

That sucks but glad the card got there alright. I once saw a package arrive that way to someone but they took way to long to pay so I think the seller did it to exact a little revenge. Either way, good story.

To my knowledge the USPS will put any open envelopes into a plastic baggie that says "This item was received open". I've received multiple items like this.

I have also received items that came open during shipping... also in a baggie with a stamped explanation. Sounds like to me that someone opened your package.

The worst was the guy (kid) who sent me $46 worth of loose quarters in an envelope with a 40 cent stamp on it.

Very wierd. Glad you got the card and I am glad there are some honest people around. I once got a Tiger Woods auto card in the mail with just the basic postage. No DC, sig confirm, insurance just the .83 cents or whatever to mail it. I was amazed somebody is that trusting with a $400.00 card.
