As many of you may remember, I posted here about an Ichiro prototype card that I had from my days at Topps. I promptly sold it for 1500 bucks. I wanted to sell it so I could make a new purchase or two for my HOF auto collection, and I was certainly able to do so. I bought three harder-to-find autos, and this one is the first one to come in:

Herb Pennock (d. 1948) won three championships with the Yankees, including with the fabled 1927 team. This is not the most aesthetically pleasing auto, but he is a tough one to come by. I got it for 330 shipped and am stoked to add it to the collection. This is my 175th different HOF auto.

I used the rest of the Ichiro funds to purchase two more, and here is number 176:

I love this one, and it was a big name to add. Cost me 750 dlvd after using the 8% paypal coupon.

I purchased 177 yesterday, and it should hopefully come in at the end of the week. I will post when it comes in.

On a side note, big thanks to Big Mac Mcgwire for giving me info on how to set up the random images in my sig.

Thanks for looking!

Wow you sold that puppy for $1500? Nice. Congrats on the new pickups! Who are the HOF you have left that you think will be impossible to get?

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised at the price, and thanks.

I could list the guys I still need, but it is still pretty long. I know that Rube Waddell has no known examples out there, and there are a few that are all but impossible. I need to start saving up for the bigger names that I'm missing, e.g. Cobb, Clemente, Ruth, Gehrig, etc. Lucky for me, there are still a few left that I can get for less thana grand, but I don't think I'll hit 200 total autos until more guys get in!

You have got to love the foresight from whomever originally obtained the Lajoie, putting it on a ful index card with all the labeling and photo!!! That's a great looking piece!!!

Thanks, I agree! I love that he dated it as well (at least I think that's Lajoie's work on the date)

I'm not trying to be disrespectful and to each his own, but I think I'd rather have the Ichiro card over those autos.

I'm a firm believer in "to each his own," especially when it comes to this hobby, and it was tough to let the Ichiro go. But the HOF auto collection must grow!

Besides, I do have a third one coming in with the Ichiro funds...

That's why this hobby is fantastic! I personally would want the HOF autos, but that's my preference. You prefer the Ichiro and if you would enjoy it more, great!

+1!

The guy that bought the Ichiro is a huge fan and collector of rare Ichiro cards. He could barely contain his excitement about purchasing the card in his emails to me. I could barely hold back from hitting the BIN on rare HOF autos with the funds!

The Ichiro prototype was sweet, and I can see why someone would want to own it. I can also see why autos of long-deceased guys don't excite other people. To go further, the prospecting thing does nothing at all for me, but I like comign here to hear all of the talk and the hype.

What a cool hobby we share
