Alfonso Soriano having a poor start this year. But he rank #4 in all star ballot, fans loved his offensive skill and ignore his short coming.

This got me thinking if Soriano moved back to 2B and his HR stroke return, Can we consider him as a HOF?

Ryne Sandberg career 282 HR Alfonso currently have 284
If he have couple of more HR season, he will reach Jeff Kent HR record easily.

If he was a little better player all around, then maybe he would have a case.

However, Sori puts up the numbers but has too many flaws as a player that may/or may not tarnish his reputation i.e. mental gaffes and general appearance that he isn't interested in anything but compiling stats.

With his speed/power combination, he's a poor man's Andre Dawson.

Poor man's? Certainly not offensively.

Dawson career AVG .279/.323/.482/.806
Soriano career AVG .279/.327/.515/.842

Comparing him to Dawson doesn't work for me simply because offensive numbers now compared to 20 years ago are very different. Stats lie when you can't see them in perspective.

That said, just over half of Soriano's games have been at 2B and he'll need a solid 5+ seasons putting up "career" numbers to sniff Cooperstown in my opinion.

Speaking of Speed I just realized that he had 40HR-40 SB season.
That being said (Canseco, Bonds, AROD) all used PED , Soriano only legit non-accused user.

I don't think his hr swing will be coming back as he was on the juice. Just my opinion

While I realize the argument is entirely hypothetical, I think it is largely irrelevant. Soriano was moved to the outfield not because he was simply subpar defensively, but because he was an utter disaster defensively in the infield. Even in the outfield, Soriano has produced numerous mental lapses and gaffes that have cost the Cubs games. Even if he did return to second, keep in mind the position is still largely a defensive position. To compare Soriano to Sandberg is an unfair comparison. While Sandberg played Gold Glove quality defense along with an above average bat, Soriano offers little beyond his offense.

Soriano is a very talented player, but I highly doubt he will ever compile the career numbers or be a dominant player for an extended period of time to be considered for HOF consideration.

Is Jeff Kent even being considered for the HOF? He's one of the best offensive second basemen ever. If he doesn't get in there is no way Soriano gets in.

Well Kent has to wait five years to be considered and I think he'll eventually be a HOFer, but maybe on his second or third go around.

I believe when it is all said and done Soriano will be a HOFer. He's been injured this season which is the reason why he's played so poorly. Looking at his frame and the way he generates power, I highly doubt that he used steroids. His power/speed numbers are already impressive, and IMO once he gets healthy again he'll go back to .290-35.

And that's where the comparison ends.

Even offensively, talk to me about Soriano's career #'s
after he plays 21 seasons. If he makes it that long.

Not really sure this is completely fair. Kent was a second baseman for all of his career.
