If the USPS ends its service, what will you do?

I have had my issues with USPS in the past-- but must admit they do a good job overall. And if business is so bad--why is there a line out the door everytime I go?--lol.

I chalk that up to the, what seems like, multiple people who go there completely unprepared and expect the workers at the counter to package up their mail for them. That, or they wait until getting to the counter (after they've been waiting in line for 5 minutes) to pack, tape, and address their item. ::facepalm::

I agree it amazes me that in my post office there is an electronic atm type machine that does 90% of what the counter person does that will sit there with nobody at it when there is a line of 10 people. I only have to wait in line to pickup a package or sign for a package.

I think though if they cut down the delivery by 1 or even 2 days the world would still go on yes we'd need to change our expectations and as sellers on ebay would all take giant hits in stars for slow delivery time thereby increasing their fees to ebay which makes feebay happy.

I HATE that. I wait in line for Money Orders(mostly cashing) Picking up packages or shipping international (which I know there is a way to do it from home I just haven't figured it out) Otherwise I drop off over 100 packages a week in the drop boxes or at the counter and walk out.

I'm all for Unions. I'm also for being paid depending on the job you do. What some of these people make is ridiculous for the job they do. I think, as with all Unions, you can have a bargaining agreement and lower wages somehwat. This could still help to keep jobs. And hey, if they don't want to take the paycut, they can always leave. Better to actually be able to keep everyone's job than face losing 200,000+ people and closing down locations. I'm also okay with them raising their prices to cover their costs.

Other measures might be possible too. Like a bunch of neighborhoods in Houston have people who get out on foot to deliver. I'm not totally sure what is quicker, but if anything, they could ask that people have a streetside mailbox(as we have around here where I live), or, better yet, I've noticed in some of the ritzier places, they have a community box where everyone's mail is placed into one giant container in the proper slots. It saves a lot of time and time is money.

If the postal workers go on strike to force the shutdown, it'll just affect my singles purchasing. H/C sets and wax are usually parcels so I shouldn't see too significant of hike in the shipping costs i have to pay to a retailer or ebayer.

If they go down, UPS and Fedex can start a letter sevrice, as ATM USPS is the only company that can have a sepperate service for letters

This would make sense if the agency were authorized under an amendment, but it isn't.

Check out Article I, Section 8, Clause 7 aka the "Postal Clause" it gives Congress the enumerated power to "designate mail routes and construct or designate post offices, with the implied authority to carry, deliver, and regulate the mails of the United States"

I always use the ATM like postage machine in the lobby at our post office. Even when there's no line at the inside counter.
Fact is, I'm faster on the machine than the clerks inside behind the counter.
Now that's sad.
The big plus is that it's available 24/7.

I guess I'm in the minority here, and would actually rather go to the postal clerk than use one of the machines. I'm tired of everything being automated, such as press 1 for English. I want to speak to a real person, just like I refuse to use the self checkouts at the grocery store.

You must have a really hot clerk or a lot of time to kill as it just frustrates me with their slowness come on join the 21st century. Probably need an app on the phone and ipad really speed things up. :>

Ha! I hate I-phones and apps. To me, it screams laziness. Just my thoughts though. I'm tired of seeing people glued to their phone. Tell me...what would you do without your phone? Me....I'd be just about the same person I am now, except I wouldn't have to answer annoying ass calls. Some people...I wonder how they would survive. Technology is nothing to scoff at but it doesn't mean you need to become dependent on it.
