The buzz has been Gruden. We'll see.
Nope not any more.

He signed a multi year contract with espn a few days ago.
BRISTOL, Conn. -Jon Gruden has agreed to a multiyear contract to stay at ESPN, suggesting he won't be returning to coaching anytime soon.
The Super Bowl-winning coach's name was bound to come up about any job openings after this season. He was fired by the Buccaneers in January, then joined ESPN as a "Monday Night Football" analyst.
The network said Monday that Gruden has "made a commitment to remain with ESPN."
Gruden led Tampa Bay to a Super Bowl title after the 2002 season.
Under the new deal, he will appear on ESPN's NFL Draft and Super Bowl week coverage and will call the 2010 Pro Bowl. Gruden will serve as an analyst for ESPN Radio's 2010 Rose Bowl and BCS title game broadcasts.
I hate Notre Dame, biggest bandwagon college team. I hate how NBC shows everyone of their games and love the fact that they suck yet again this year. We've probably seen the last of Charlie in ND. Although it can't all be his fault, ND can't draw the talent that they used to back in the 80's and 90's.

I guess Jimmy Clausen and Golden Tate have no talent then?

Sure they do, but two players do not a team make. I knew someone would throw something like that out.

There was a somewhat solid rumor floating that they wanted Jon Gruden. Gruden signed with ESPN for another few years, but that doesn't always mean anything.

There's this take on the Weis situation too.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... e-leaving/

The guessing game regarding Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis' future probably ended Saturday in South Bend.

Another home loss -- this time in overtime to UConn 33-27 in double overtime -- is expected to seal Weis' fate at the school, if it wasn't already.

So why are we posting this here rather than CollegeFootballTalk or Inside the Irish?

Weis' removal will likely have a ripple effect on the NFL Draft. As NBC announcer Pat Haden pointed out after Saturday's loss, quarterback Jimmy Clausen came to Notre Dame to work under Weis. He's unlikely to stay if Weis is removed. (As a potential first-round pick, there was a good chance he would leave already.)

With Weis and Clausen possibly on their way out, ultra-talented wide receiver Golden Tate also seems less likely to stick around.

Who knows, perhaps Weis can coach Clausen or Tate as their coordinator in the NFL next year.

According to Rivals, here are ND's last 5 recruiting class rankings: 11 (2010), 21 (2009), 2 (2008), 8 (2007), 8 (2006). The worst class, 2009, did include one of the best defensive recruits ND has ever had (Te'o). I don't think attracting talent is the issue...

I believe colleges need to be patient. I mean Dave Wanstedt(spelled wrong) was being run out of Pitt. The university stayed the course and they are alright. If ND thinks starting over again will help they are crazy. Even if you bring in Meyer it would not help

Thanks posted! Who the hell cares about Notre Dame in the NY area? Aren't there any other college teams locally that could be shown on TV? And the YES network can have them too.

Proud UConn fan here. They've had a tough season between some really close games and the tragic death of one of their players.

It's under contract.

HAHA. That is the single reason they are not in a conference.

But in regards to Weis, he was a good coordinator in NE, but the way the offense has looked since he left, it appeared to be more about the organization than Weis. McDaniels was able to step right in and lead one of the best offenses ever.

If Urban gets offered the job, he should leave. UF will take a significant step backwards next season when Tebow leaves. Meyer has done all he can at UF, and could finish off this season undefeated with a NC.

That's good to know, I never would have thought that they had that much talent recruited. Yet they can't be more than mediocre, even in this the year of mediocrity. Maybe they do need a better coach.
