I still maintain that Lincecum will have arm-trouble in the next 1-3 years.

I don't care if it's a complete fluke or a dusty baker special, but I just get da feelin'

I want my pitchers built like brick-shat-houses with picture perfect deliveries.

With that said, the baby faced king is da pick.

I find it funny that you peg Lincecum for arm trouble when his greatest attribute is how his delivery incorporates his entire body, thus reducing the risk on him to a minimum.

Exactly Pujols Junkie!
Pigskin: How much research have you done on Lincecum's delivery? People much smarter than you or I or anyone else on FCB have studied it extensively and they all come to the same conclusion. His arm is put through very little stress. All his power comes from his freakishly long stride.

If this is so obvious, why wasn't it clear before he started winning Cy Young Awards?

The fact is that his delivery is unorthodox, and this means that there could be real risk of major injury. As long as he's healthy people will have to come up with ways to explain it, but if (and I hope he does not) he gets hurt, I can guarantee they will revert to what they said before he was drafted and in his first couple of seasons.

The exact opposite happened with Mark Prior. As long as he looked like the "next big thing" his delivery was considered the cleanest around. Once he got hurt a few times people all of a sudden were pointing out all the flaws he had in his delivery.

People will always work to develop conclusions that match the current results. It is an easy way to sound intelligent, and is far less challenging than going against what everyone can see. We'll see in a few years if they are singing a different tune.

I tried to fill the unique positions with young and consistent talent.

Chase Utley 2b
Shane Victorino CF
Hanley Ramirez SS
Joe Mauer C
Ryan Zimmerman 3B

Of course I went with the young pitchers here. I tried to pick consistent performances over just 1 dominant performance.

Unorthodox doesn't equate to bad. While Lincecum has unorthodox mechanics, as others have pointed out they are pretty clean. The concerns (possibly unwarranted) but held by many in baseball about undersized pitchers not being able to hold up is worth taking into consideration.

Also, Prior having clean mechanics was a complete myth. Anyone saying so either didn't know how to evaluate mechanics at all or they simply weren't even trying to because his stuff was so good and his delivery was "smooth." The guy had very poor mechanics which led to his injuries. That and being overworked, again another concern with Lincecum.

I love the fans of the teams being slappy! Are you a Sox fan? Pedroia and Lester?!?!? Be a little impartial for Christ's sake!

Anyone making a hypothetical franchise who doesn't pick 5 top starting pitchers is a bad owner.

Almost agree. I say grab 4 Starters and the best closer, and 5 position players. You can get a 5th starter anywhere, and sometimes skip the 5th starter. Using 5 picks on SP is overkill.
