If this was a year ago there would be several members clamoring for Pablo Sandoval...

I realize this thread is opinion based, but shouldn't a player prove himself more than one season before you'd take him as your hypothetical franchise starter? Just a thought ;)

I dont understand anymore someone just said Derek jeter their is a lot of things wrong with that hes expensive old getting worst by the year u cud get buster posey and like hey ward and some better players for his price

Yeah but neither of them have mystique, aura, and calm eyes. Jeter's the only logical building block.

You forgot to mention poise.

Joe Mauer....I'd consider Buster Posey because of age but I don't know how well he handles pitchers?
He handled the best pitching staff in the majors last year...he did it very well.

I would take Posey, Lincecum or Hanley/maybe Pujols if I had a rich franchise.

Mauer used to be the default answer to this question but no longer since he signed his big contract.

1. Longoria - Plus bat and glove at a premium position signed long-term for cheap. Easy #1.
2. Posey
3. Heyward

Longoria's contract makes him the obvious choice among the truly elite hitters, especially when taking into account the weakness at 3B in the majors.

I love Felix but I'll take Lester at half the cost.

Less than $5 million for Longo + Lester. Not bad.

I'd strongly consider Posey as well. The guy is an absolute rock.

If you're going by contract, then Ryan Braun has to me in the mix.

Okay. Sorry Lincecum has 2 CY Youngs. 3 straight seasons of 200+ IP and was super clutch in the post season/world series and is only 26. Sorry he's on my team, he's my favorite player and that I chose him.

Or Justin Upton. For the record, I will (surprisingly) be the first in this thread to say Heyward.

A lot of people have this right and there's really only one answer: Evan Longoria.

08:$0.5M, 09:$0.55M, 10:$0.95M, 11:$2M, 12:$4.5M, 13:$6M, 14:$7.5M club option ($3M buyout), 15:$11M club option, 16:$11.5M club option. Even if 11 Kicks up to 2.5 and the options kick to 14, it's still insane.

People underrate Ryan Zimmermann, but he's earning 9M. Over the past 2 years, he's right behind Pujols and Longoria.

A pitcher isn't an option if you're looking at a long-term deal, even if he's the best pitcher over the past 3 years: Halladay. :)

There is no "right" answer, Zimmermann, Longo, Hamilton, Lincecum, Bruan, Posey, Hernandez and Pujols are all good candidates.

Ofcourse there isn't a right answer but its a fun game to play!
Zimmerman-already making big bucks as Pigskin said.
Longo-my answer
Hamilton-junkie and injury prone.
Lincecum-he's already making decent money and pitchers are injury prone.
Braun-Big bat and nice contract but very little defensive value.
Posey- 2nd on my list
Hernandez-See Lincecum
Pujols - Big bat and good glove but making huge money at a position that isn't hard to find a nice bat.
