Yup, not sure why people are choosing Lincecum to be honest. I would take Kershaw if I wanted a pitcher. I know Lincecum has won the two CY awards but his season this year (drop in velocity) and the fact that he keeps fidgeting with his delivery worries me. Also, people will always worry about injury with him.
14k's in game 1 was pretty impressive. I would take Lincicum over Kershaw.

No I agree it was impressive, how good were the Braves hitting though? Also, why would you take Lincecum over Kershaw other than the CY awards? I mean, Kershaw is only 22. He sits at 94 as a lefty with a great slider and curve. In the first two full years he has an ERA under 3.00, and this year he had 200+ innings and 200+ strikeouts. Also, in the last two years he has more strikeouts than innings pitched. He proved this year that his command is improving as well. I'm sorry but I cannot see the logic in your choice. Lincecum did not have a very good year this year and his velocity has dropped significantly.
Pitching isnt all about velocity, you keep bringing up velocity. His other pitches are nasty and they set up his fastball. He has movement. The reason people swing and miss at his 92mph fastball is bc it has movement and after his other pitches it seems like it is a 96mph fastball. You said this about the diamondbacks and the now about the braves. They werent hitting bc the guy was pitching good, his stuff was incredible, he kept them guessing and off balance, with a 91-92 mp fastball.

You say you are tired of hearing about velocity, I am tired of people saying Tim Lincecum is so good because of his delivery, or his strikeouts, or whatever. I think Lincecum is a great pitcher; however, I said I would take Kershaw over Lincecum and I have yet to read a response to my question. So is anybody can answer my question or are you guys going to keep obsessing over Lincecum?[/quote:26k8u8i3]
I responded, and I said I would take Lincecum. Im not going to waste my time showing you his every little stat compared to Kershaw. I think he is a better pitcher. Plain and simple.[/quote:26k8u8i3]

Right, but when I said I take Kershaw over Lincecum and responded with proof, you guys just got mad and said Lincecum is better. Whatever, though, you have your opinions, and I have mine.

Was Kershaw the best pitcher in the league during his first 2 full seasons? I think not! Plus you can't just look at one year, most players have an off year, look at Roy Halladay. I already pointed this out to you.

Lincecum's first 2 complete seasons were better than Kershaw's. Give it a rest. Kershaw is a great pitcher just not as good as Lincecum. All this talk about Lincecum's bad season is a joke. He had one bad month. If he doesn't have that bad month he's 19-7 and in the Cy Young discussion for the 3rd straight season. How many Cy Young awards Kershaw have? You're more obsessed with Lincecum's velocity and his "bad year" than anyone. You bring him up more than we do.

Oh, I dunno. Maybe because it's easier to find a hitter who bats .294 with 22 homers and 104 RBI than a Top-of-the-rotation pitcher that has two Cy Young awards and leads the league in strikeouts every year
Agreed. I think Longaria is a good player but severely overrated and hyped. He isnt even the best thirdbaseman in his division.

Ok, I'm really interested to here who? Rodriguez, Beltre, I mean really who? This might actually be the most idiotic thing I have ever read on this board. Wow, thanks.
Yes ARod is a lot better than him. ARod had a down year this year and still had better stats. There is no comparison there. Beltre had a better year this year, but that is just this year.[/quote:1rpzs2mg]

How on earth has Arod been a lot better than him? Last year Arod hit 5 points higher than him and 3 home runs less. But then you would argue that he played in only 124 games versus Longoria's 157. I respond to that by saying Longoria had 27 more doubles than him and won a gold glove. To this year, Arod does have 8 more home runs. But Longoria is hitting 24 points higher and 17 more doubles. Not to mention, Arod has Cano hitting behind him and plays in that joke of a baseball park. Longoria had the choice of Pena, Joyce, Dan Johnson, or Baldelli hitting behind him this year and plays in a closed stadium where the baseball certainly doesn't fly. You also forget that Longoria is only 25 now, played this year at the age of 24, and Arod is 35. So again, how has Arod been better than Longoria?

Ok guys this is the last thing I am going to say. First off, if I am the one who is so obsessed how come you guys always seem to respond so quickly. Second of all, I just stated that we have our opinions, let that be that. Yet you guys flip out anytime someone mentions that your "ace" isn't as good as everybody says he is. The thread is for who would you rather start a franchise with, I take Kershaw over Lincecum any day. You argue Lincecum had a better first two years than Kershaw, yet this is true, but do I really have to remind you that at the age of 22, Lincecum wasn't even in the majors yet.

Why are you bringing in age? What does that have to do with anything? Lincecum is a better pitcher, Kershaw is more of a thrower...

Ok one more time then. The thread was for who would you rather have to start a franchise with. I would rather have Kershaw since he is 4 years younger and in my opinion just as if not almost as good as Lincecum. Yes, Kershaw has struggled with command yet he still had a sub 3.00 ERA for the second year in a row and he cut down on the walks this year. Walks is the only thing stopping him from being a top 5 pitcher in all of baseball in my opinion. So is he more of a thrower because he throws harder than Lincecum?

i dont normally agree with anything elmalo says but to be honest i dont see how longoria was better than arod this year...i mean like you said arod had 8 more hr's, 21 more rbi's and played in 14 less games... they have the same slugging and longoria had a better BA and OBP, one other thing about arod is that he is the most clutch hitter in the league...and the age thing really has no meaning in this argument, now if the question was who would you rather have for the future..obviously longoria since hes ten years younger but just taking one given year arod was better imo.

I too would take Longoria over ARod for the future. But if I needed one right now it would be ARod. Who also had a guy hitting infront of him with a hundred RBI's, so that takes away from his totals. As far as that park, Ive seen arod hit some bombs there.

No, because he hasn't learned how to pitch yet, he hasn't learned finesse.

For my pitcher I would pick the one and only Felix Hernandez.

Position player, Hanley Ramirez.

I think these two players have an excellent combination of youth and ability.

I think Robinson Cano is a pretty great choice. He's young and keeps getting better each season, who knows how good he'll be at the peak. I also think picking these NL pitchers is funny because, well, they pitch in the NL.

Agree with you on the pitching thing. The NL is weak.
Ramirez is a good choice as well, similar to Cano. A good young middle infielder on the up.

All of his problems were because of conditioning and after he started doing more work in between starts he started getting better, of course he won't be able to hit 94 again right now, but he will be able to next year if he keeps working on his conditioning, ask Oswalt.

A little HGH and he will be just fine.
