My god they have gotten lazy. The Mauer from whatever series that was so awesome has now been used 2 other times with different players. There was the Posada exclusive and now the Martin. Go check it out, disgraceful.

As for the others, the Ellsbury looks so awful, he looks like he is dancing. The Hamilton looks like it is just a repaint of the Pujols 2 from series 6 or 7, and who would actually want a figure of a guy in a batters on deck circle?

They've been doing this for a while now.Its nothing new. They use the entire body but change the head up so it looks like whatever players its supposed to.

The Reyes has the Mets black jersey whereas the old one has the pinstripes. McFarlane has really shifted to making figures of just the Mets, Yankees, and Sox. So far this year, they have announced 21 figures.

12 Yankees/Mets/Red Sox. I guess that's what sells, but I wish they had more variety.

it is quite rediculous

Yeah but if you go back through the years they have several players from every team.People like D-Train, Miggy, Berkman, Scott Podsednik, Todd Helton, Larry Walker. They have a slew of them. Now it just seems they focus more on the Yanks and the sox.

That's my point. Both figure quality and the diversity of figures has decreased over the past years.

I'll agree but they are not going to do anything special unless the market dictates it.Otherwise they are trying to cater to the biggest market. At least its not this way for basketball and football.

This is really nothing new for McFarlane. They are a business after all. As much as I would love to see more Pirate figures, or any of the other lesser teams for that matter, producing more popular players and teams allows them to make players like Kazmir, who will not sell nearly as many figures. This holds true across all sports. If you want to see a more even distribution of figures across, we would likely be looking at figures of SLU quality once again.

As far as reusing poses, again, it's something that they've done for years, and is done out of necessity. The cost and time that goes into producing new sculpts makes it nearly impossible to make more than 1-2 new sculpts per line. Remember, they're putting out 3 regular lineups, plus a HOF line, for all 4 major sports every year. The reused sculpts don't always look great, but it's not really something that can be changed.

You can complain about the same poses, but I don't mind it.

Hell, I used to be big into SLU when I was a kid. I got a Gretzky/Messier double pack with both as Rangers. They both have the same face, just one has a slightly darker brown for eyebrows. I believe the Frank Thomas, Bo Jackson, and Griffey Jr have very similar faces.

While I'm reminiscing on my old figure hobby - CAN SOMEBODY REVIVE HEADLINERS!? I loved those things. I loved that they made the team set for the Cowboys.

Holy crap! I had no idea that McFarlane made such lifelike figures! I always thought his stuff was a tad more than Starting Lineups but with more quality. Those there are lifelike! Are all of his figurines like this? I thought I remember them not being as detailed in past releases.

They are all "life like" like this. You can;t even compare Starting line ups to Mcfarlanes. The newest Lou Gehrig fig is just awesome.

Not the best pic i guess, just go to goggle images and do a Gehrig Mcfarlane search

As far as this series goes, ill be adding the Russ Martin, the Hamilton and the two Yankees.

I love the Gehrig. I picked it up as soon as it came out. It's my favorite Mcfarlane to date.

This has to be my favorite McFarlane, even though it's similar to the one LT that came first.

I am a huge collector of these figures and have every Cooperstown ones made until this year. This year they decided to skimp and make the figures much smaller than the ones in the past. There was a firestorm of complaints to McFarlane and they have decided to go back to the full size figures and they are going back to the repaint variants as well.

My friends made so much fun of the LT figure when he was actually sitting against the Pats in the AFC Championship. We called it the LT InAction figure.

I take mine out of the packages and display them next to their signed ball. Obviously some of the guys I don't have balls signed, but for me it is pointless to keep them in the boxes. They look so much better on display. So technically, I guess I am the opposite of the 40 year old version in that I open my packages and I didn't wait til I was 40 to do the nasty ;)

They look better opened and they take up way less room. They look great on a bookcase shelf.

As for creating a new mold for more than few figures for each series...trust me when I say that McFarlane makes way more than enough money on these figures to create more than one or two molds per. They simply choose not to.It doesn't bother me too much but the thing that I did hate with a passion was the smaller size. Its not lacking in detail but if matched up with counter parts from the other series they look kinda retarded.

I believe the this series is a TRU exclusive and is all reused poses. That is how they have done this series in the past. I think they release just before opening day, so check your local TRU. They do make new poses, a couple in each regular series. You have to remember they also NHL, NBA and NFL figures and the sculpters I hear are worked to the bone. Also McFarlane makes a ton of non sport figures. But for $10 a fig these are amazing pieces they do. Much better than those crappy cartoon Upper Deck vinyl stuff. The one thing they did mess up is Josh Hamilton has never used a Rawlings bat that I can recall.
