it was pretty interesting to actually see him finally drop the gloves. Kovy he been known to take cheap shots at players and then skate away. a few seasons ago he crosschecked Sid from behind and when Sid went after him he skated to the bench and hopped over the boards. he did the same thing with Sean Avery a few seasons ago and when Avery went after him both players shook their gloves but Kovy wouldn't drop them.

he received the instigating penalty first and then was given the unsportsmanlike penalty for instigating with a visor. you can fight with a visor but you can't instigate while wearing a visor.

Rule 47.6 states:

Face Protection – If a player penalized as an instigator of an altercation is wearing a face shield (including a goalkeeper), he shall be assessed an additional unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Should the player (including a goalkeeper) who instigates the fight be wearing a face shield, but removes it before instigating the altercation, the additional unsportsmanlike conduct penalty shall not apply.

Ya I get that...but isn't Cooke the one who started the whole thing? I know Ilya was first to drop the gloves, but clearly Cooke gave him a nice cheap shot after going knee on knee in Ottawa the night before.

Yeah Cooke is a dirty player.... but I guess it's his job :? .

He could have ended a players season the night before when he stuck out his knee on Donavan on the Sens.

Shep :ugeek:

EDIT:

Cooke is no Shawn Avery/Steve Downie though..... Oh I hate those guys.

I also know Ilya is alittle bushleague himself at times....

I know he has been in a few fights, I believe he got into it with Ian White of the Leafs last year.

Cooke did start the whole thing with Kovy but Kovy went after him and started throwing punches hence the instigator penalty.

Cooke is one of the best instigators in the NHL and yes that is his job.
