that EDMONTON wins the draft lottery tonight and gets to draft Nail Yakupov!!!!! :D

Yakupov playing with Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent Hopkins would be amazing!!

Draft lottery is live on TSN.ca at 6pm Mountain or 8pm Eastern. (Not sure if any US networks are picking it up)

Edmonton, Montreal, Toronto, Long Island and Columbus are all in the lottery. Hoping that ANY TEAM but Columbus or Toronto wins the lottery.

First there was the Quebec Nordiques with Curtis Leschyshyn, Mats Sundin, Owen Nolan and Eric Lindros all getting drafted in the top 3.

Then there was Pittsburgh Penguins with Fleury, Malkin, Crosby and Staal all going with top 2 picks.

Now the Edmonton Oilers have Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent Hopkins both drafted 1st overall and hopefully another top 2 pick this year.

they need a goalie. the Oilers should trade the first pick if they win it to the Flames for Leland Irving.

it's not a new station. NBC bought Versus and renamed it.

hahaha, that would be awesome but the Flames would probably have to include Leland Irving, Sven Baertsch, their first round pick this year and probably next as well and that MIGHT get Edmontons pick, especially if its #1 overall.

Moments away from the lottery....

I can't see Edmonton passing up on a potential franchise player like Yakupov.

Cant wait to see a quad auto of Gretzky, Hall, RHN and Yakupov :D

Oh man, so Ryan Murray is now ranked #2 according to Central Scouting ... I really, REALLY hope he goes #2 or #4 - I would HATE to see him drafted by Montreal (or even Toronto at #5), it'd be so difficult to root for him if he played for either of those teams.

I figured you would be a Murray fan with him playing in Everett. I have a feeling he goes #3 to Montreal.

well they need a number one goalie or they will never improve as a team.

Agreed.

But even a team as strapped as the Oil can find some FA $$$ for a better goalie instead of losing a Top of the Draft type talent...

Of course, gotta support the local team and any players of theirs that go pro! :) Sad part is, of 30 teams in the league there are only two I wouldn't want to see him play for ... and of course, one of those two (Philly being the other) has a really chance of getting him ... damn you Montreal!.

I read somewhere that the oilers are trying to move the first overall pick and move down to 3 or 4 and try to get a defensemen

Hockey talk radio here in Calgary has been saying the same thing ever since the Oilers were rewarded the #1 pick. Its just all speculation and rumors.

The thing is, is the Oilers already have some decent Dmen as well as a few top tier defensive prospects in their system. Its not like the Oilers have no good Dmen coming up in their system, they have several that are just really young and need some time.

Ryan Whitney is a top 4 Dman on a lot of teams in my books. Whitney was injured for nearly half the year this year, so that hurt the Oilers defense right there. As well, the Oilers also have a big 6' 4", 210 lb Dman top prospect named Colton Teubert. The Oilers traded away Dustin Penner to get Teubert. Teubert was also a first round pick, 13th overall about 3 years ago and is a top prospect who will develop into a top 4 d man in the coming years. Last year with the first pick in the second round, the Oil took another good defensive prospect, David Musil, the son of former NHLer Frantisak Musil, so they have him coming up as well. It just takes Dmen a bit longer to get NHL ready then forwards, for the most part.

Oilers also have two second round picks this year, one of their own and one from LA, so they can draft 2 Dmen in the second round as well.

I just can't see Edmonton trading away a potential franchise player unless it is a deal that they absolutely can't refuse. If i was a betting man, i would bet the bank the Oil keep the #1 pick to get Nail Yakupov.
