Why does it have to be Bowman Chrome? I'd much rather have a base Topps or Topps Chrome 1/1 RC, there's much more history there.

Imagine if every player has the bowman chrome rookie series like we have today and they were all autos

what would a ken griffey jr red refractor /5 auto or super 1/1 auto go for

same with pujols, what would his super 1/1 auto go for

ichiro, clemens, wright, reyes, miggy, mcgwire, sosa, ripken, nolan ryan

imagine!

i was just wodering because i think something like the griffey super would go for something nuts considering all the griff collectors, i dont wanna sound stupid, but does 50k sound right?

if you use todays standards for the bowman line then you would have to assume that they would also be producing the same number of sets across the board hobby wide. so griffey would have an elite auto, spx auto, signature series auto, and so on and so on. so wouldnt the market adjust for the quantities available?

either way those cards would []D [] []v[] []D hard! and i would love to drool over them...

The neat thing about the discussion is that it removes vintage vs modern from the debate and it would simply come down to who has the craziest super rich fans.

I still say that even semi stars will have very very very expensive Gold Refractor rookie sales over the next 10-20 years.

You see people drop hundreds, and thousands building collections of great players like Mattingly, McGriff, Grace, and guys like Canseco, Conine, Edgar Martinez, etc.

Gold Refs, never mind superfractors of these guys would sell for 100, 500,1000 dollars easy.

SuperFractor autos of all time greats (We're talking about 10-15 guys in the history of the game) would hit 6 figures easy.

And just because you can't imagine spending that much, it just means you're not the guy who's gonna get it.

This thinking seems to make a lot of sense, and is the reason that many think that there is a ton more potential in the high-end RC Auto's. I don't disagree...

That said, to make a direct comparison is unreasonable. A player who comes up today will likely have a few different rookie autograph cards, and tens of thousands of cards signed by the time his career is over; pretty much every season brings about new signed cards for all the big names. Because of this, an autograph, and even an autograph rookie card of a big name today, will not have the attraction that one might think if they compare the player to a player of 50 years ago.

The potential still seems pretty huge, but we're still waiting for it to happen, which does make me wonder. Arod is one of the best ever and his 1994 UD Auto is not near $1000 (while it's not a gold ref. auto, it is his only auto, and he's legitimately onr of the very best ever.) While I do expect prices to increase, I wonder when it will happen (though I do imagine that sooner or later the first player will crack that imaginary barrier, and then others will follow, in a similar fashion to back when the BC Pujols Auto kept pushing its way north and people watched thinking prices could not possibly keep going up. Then once Pujols hit those numbers, other cards had an easier time following behind.)
