I have hit a huge wall with my collection this year, I have only been able to pick up 35 O'Neill cards over the first 5 months of this year. Last year I started the year at 500 and was at 850 by the end of the year so this year has been VERY slow in comparison. I didn't expect that type of progress to continue, but I was hoping to add another 150 cards and reach the 1,000 mark by the end of 2009. Right now, I am nowhere close to reaching that mark.

With overall slowed card sales, I feel there hasn't been much stuff listed on eBay (or elsewhere) anymore. Even outside of eBay, for the first time in as long as I can remember I have had zero trades during an entire month. With O'Neill being retired since 2001, there haven't been many releases in the post-DLP era. With no new O'Neill stuff being released, it is now a waiting game for older stuff to pop-up at reasonable prices.

that's nothing compared to my dry spell with the ladies

thing is, when you start, there's so much that are available that when you buy em, they add up rather quickly but once you hit that 50-70% mark, it gets tough

keep up the good work, be patient.

Fortunately and unfortunately I don't think I'll have this problem with Hanley Ramirez. He's had 4050 cards released since 2002.

daveyou - Thanks Dave for the kind words! I knew it was an uphill climb after 60%, but it has much slower than I woul have ever expected.

championMan - Almost...just need 2 more YSL inserts, games 6006 and 6135. I have 73 of 75 from the set so far. I also have all the O'Neills from the Blue and White YSL Box sets as well as the YSL GU card. Interesting idea about getting all of O'Neill's games, that would be a MASSIVE undertaking though, almost a 700 cards! Not sure if I have the patience for such a project. Maybe I can go after just the games where he homered?

hofmichael - Thanks for the offer, but I already have one of those jerseys. I would be very interested if you happen to have game #6006 and/or #6135.

Tomlinson21RB - I'm still not sure what is better. Having more cards to chase, or having a higher completion?

ThoseBackPages - Nice job, I had no idea you had such a complete Bruce collection! Hey, at least you have new releases to look forward to.

In 2007 and 2008 Jesse Crain had a grand total of 5 new cards released. I just spend my money on other things (not cards).

I wouldn't expand your collection to other things. There is a reason you collect O'Neill and not those other things. Why spend money on something not important to you?

I would say just wait it out, you'll always collect O'Neill and if you are not spending money now you'll be able to over pay a little to get the cards you're looking for. Of course you could buy unopened older wax and see if you get lucky and pull the cards you're looking for.

Do your part in boycotting Burbank. I am usually very patient, but a dryspell is rare for me, so it might be harder for you.

I'm in a similar spot.

I haven't really picked up a lot in awhile.

I try to sell a bunch of stuff to get cash to buy Cardinals, Markakis, etc, but that stuff doesn't sell, and I still have to pay eBay fees.

I'm just trying to sell everything I don't want.

I know how you feel. J.P. hasn't had a card made since early 2008 and I pretty much have everything in my price range that I've seen. So, now I'm just picking up Ben Grieve cards here and there that I like and adding to my Vol alumni collection, and that's about it until J.P. has more cards made.

Nevermore, I am really thinking that I have YSL 6135.

I think it was next in my "to be scanned" pile, as the Pettitte YSL and the Reggie Jackson YSL were just scanned.

I'm trying to find it as I speak.

I appreciate the input guys...

hofmichael - Thanks for checking!

Craig - 21hawk - I had seen Crain pitch back in Rochester while I was at school there. I'm surprised there are so few cards of his available. I agree with what you are saying....even now, besides O'Neill, I only collect very few things. Even those I usually try to acquire through trades. That is why my secondary player collection of Rivera has pretty much come to a standstill, my last few additions have been base cards which I found in the dime box.

thenumberonemetfan & MOFNY - So far I have resisted the Dark Side. But if I were ever to buy from them it would just be 2-3 cards, and only if there was a nice 30-40% live.com available.

ronfromfresno - Smart thinking, save now to put in higher bids later for stuff you need. My policy is to avoid overpaying but I guess you have to let go of that as you get down to fewer and fewer cards. Haha, to me, busting wax is an even darker path than Burbank!

Skorris CCBC - It has been a tough market, you're not the only one. One of my collecting goals this year was to fund my buying though my sales, and I've been unsuccessful so far in that realm! I try and avoid eBay if possible for most things, I'd rather sell for a few dollars cheaper on the boards. Thanks for checking for that YSL, PLMK if you do find it!

Hallsgator - Do you buy multiples of JP's stuff? I have seen many player collectors, especially of the youger players do that. I was never one who could justify such a practice, I'd rather buy stuff I don't already have. With my O'Neill collection, I am in the same place as you, many of the cards I need are outside my range -- the $20-30 GUs, and $60-100 autos.

The only time I'll buy a double is if it's of some thing rare that I like. Like the USA patches, I have four of those, but they are one of my favorite cards. But I rarely buy many doubles nowadays.
