What are the best rookie cards to get of a player? I guess there can be two answers to this.

1. What are the top 3 rookie cards that you would want of a player?
2. What are the top 3 rookie cards that you would buy if investing in a player? (This might be the same answer as above)

I'm looking at picking up some rookie of this years draft class, but none of the Panini cards stand out or look any better than the others in my opinion.

I'd say the best cards right now are the 'Freshman Orientation' and 'Dress For Success' patch/autographs from Rookies & Stars. Both have versions numbered to 25 and 10.

(5/10 and 7/10)

As far as second and third best, I'm not really sure.
Contenders comes out later this month and those rc autos should be considered among the top rc cards. Hopefully Contenders will have sticker autographs because most of the on card autos I've seen in football are pretty bad.

The freshman orientation look nice. Are those actual rookie cards or just rookie year inserts though? It seems like the inserts are far more appealing than the actually rookie cards.

Contenders should be nice, but I agree they need to figure out a better way to do on card autos if they do them. The football ones looked like crap from the scans I saw.

The RC vs insert thing confuses me. I just say that I collect 'RC year' stuff.
I also like the Panini Threads Rookie Collection patch/autos (/50 ?), but I don't think they are true rookie cards either.
The Elite autos are okay.
Prestige bores me.
Panini regular is 'for the kids' which isn't necessarily a bad thing I guess.

1. Contenders, Elite, some type of patch/auto rc. Exquisite would be #1 if the player was in the set. Nothing is that impressive or unique on panini's part yet. Just a rehash of their old ideas and designs. Hopefully, something National Treasures will be released, if not contenders will probably have the most value.

theyve posted a few on facebook, and imo theyre a little better than the football ones design-wise. pens are still a little weird though

Nice looking card. I checked out the rest of the pics and some of those signatures are brutal when it comes to pen fading or ink bubbling.
