I've never done it, but my only advice is to talk talk talk to a lot of people who have. You are going to get a bazillion different opinions on the subject, but until you sit down with a few who are or have done it, you won't be getting firsthand advice.
In my opinion, anyone can start a business. Age can be a factor, but then again lots of older business people have tried and failed. Heck, wasn't Bill Gates pretty young when he got going? It's all in your preparation, just like you are doing now. Asking for opinions and ideas.
I wish you luck. I think its inspiring to hear of someone having a long term goal. So many nowadays are so focused on tomorrow that they aren't able to think about long term.
