Here's the way I see this conundrum:

Elites are nice looking cards, they're first year, they're made by a reputable company (even though technically unlicensed). I'll take an Elite auto if there are no other autos available of the player.

Bowman Sterling has everything above, but is made by Topps and therefore is officially licensed. Not to mention it carries the Bowman name. I'll take this one over Elite, if available.

Bowman Chrome is a second year card. It SHOULDN'T be what people seek based on this alone, but in all reality, it is. People want Chrome, plain and simple. It's the nicest looking design, it's licensed, it has the right product name, it features on-card autographs.

If all three autos are available, then this is how I rank:

1. Chrome
2. Sterling
3. Elite

And while we're on the topic, here's how I would compare parallels of non-auto Chrome vs auto Elite:

Base Elite Auto > Xfractor (or any Chrome parallel up to Xfractor)

Chrome Blue Refractor > Blue Aspirations Auto /100

Chrome Gold Refractor > Elite Status Auto /50

Elite Gold Status Auto /5 = Chrome Red Refractor /5

Elite Black Status Auto /1 > Chrome Superfractor /1

Traditionally it would be the Bowman Sterling Refractor autos but for some reason people still want a 2nd year Bowman Chrome parallel auto.
